Hahaha that little scrawny f*ck Soaring Swine. He didnt look like he had lifted a weight in his life, so he did ok considering. For my first meet 150 was hard to get technique right on, I got it the third time just didnt pause buddy.

I dropped a 270 dead due to grip, got a clean 250... and squated 200. Not too bad for my first comp at only 21 I thought.

If you want to try and bag me for lifting weights then come and see me in person, you'll still be up to f*ck all in a few years mate

I would type out a massive post ripping into Sam, but then I realised I don't really care... I lift for strength not size (I'd only been lifting a few months when I met you anyway).

This guy doesn't look like he lifts either, yet he squat, benchs and deadlifts far more than anyone in New Zealand (no matter what size) could.

My point was what you mentioned, (taken out of context by DP) was that you didn't have the technique right and that let your strength down on the day. I think I was advising someone about a powerlifting contest in their journal.

Alright bud well if that's they way it was meant to sound then I'll let it slide, but the supposedly part is a crock.

As for strength not size, I completely agree, my training is 90% power lifting style (which has led to my 12 year old boy looking calves haha  ). Squats, Deads, Bench, Standing shoulders, Front squats, Cleans. You can still look powerful by eating well tho...

pausings part of the technique right?

Yeah, something up until a week before the comp I had never practiced or heard of haha. Damon taught me what he could but suggested I relax and go for a decent dead n squat instead.

  • 2 weeks later...

Something just popped near my kidney... Ouch.

Training is going well aside.. Should break thru the 120kg barrier again by next week. Starting to get my appetite back, way too hard to eat in an asian country so will be heading back home soon to prepare for a couple of PL comps.

Focusing heaps on symetry at the moment, my hammies and calfs need some serious work. Quads are looking a lot better than this time last year

Will put some progress pics up for comparisons sake.

I'm in Hong Kong currently. Have been for a while now. Eating is such a fucking mission. Gyms are insane tho. All brand new and no one uses the squat racks

I mean break thru the 120kg body weight barrier... Aiming for 130kg with a bit of fat for December

Still training hard, partying too much. Arms about a month or so off 20 inches, pretty happy with that. Still tryna pack on the weight. Fighting in Cage Wars in October in QLD, will weigh in around 127-130 all going to plan.

How do you find maintaining the weight and balancing the cardio? Can inmagine you have to maintain high fitness to fight ....

130kg and 20' arms has to scare the shit out of the other guys :pfft:

I'm not the fittest in the world at the moment. haha. Gunna start busting my ass running every morning. Far too much time spent partying, killing my lungs and focusing on powerlifting rather than all over training.

The guy I'm up against is 130kg and 6 foot 6 from what the fight promoter told me yesterday, so I wont be dwarfing anyone! There are 4 fighters over the 140kg mark in good condition in the tournament.

Meeting up for lunch with the bro Paul Kingi tomorrow, hes weighing in at 144kg or so at 6 foot 2. He is a monster. Cant wait to see him back in the ring in some proper title fights.

I used to do security with Paul years ago at Kitty Obriens - irsih tavern used to be outside victoria park market. I think he was heavier back then ... 155kg? may be. Funny guy and a quick thinker.

Hardcore, you're obviously a member (or former member) who doesn't have the balls to disagree with other members out in the open, instead you've created a bullshit account. What a pussy. HTFU.

And obviously you needa take your menoease tabs and chill baby! A bit of freindly piss taking never hurt anyones feelings until you read it. I wasnt attacking Samwelly just giving him abit of shit as hes got form for 'slightly' exagerating his amazing feats of strength and size.. I'm sure everyone who has been reading for a while would agree with me.

And no, not a former member or a current member.

Long time listener, first time caller..

If that's the case then I apologise. Benefit of the doubt and all.

I shall go and sit in the naughty corner and await my punishment (in the form of a Mr O competitor with a whip).

EDIT: apologies also to Sam's hijacked journal. :shifty:

Haha good one buddy.. Does it look like I have 17inch arms in my profile.

I have backed up my lifts in front of people. Happy to put some photos up that were taken last night.

As for my bench, I took a decent video last week too. 140kg for 12 clean no spot, followed by 160kg for 6, and 180kg for 3. Not too bad I thought... I'll grab it off my mates phone when I can.

Any experienced BB'er will know that gym lifts and what you can lift in a meet with proper form can vary quite substantially.

I was doing those lifts and reps when I was 20 man. And yeah if you lost that gut you have in your profile pic I'd say ya arms would be around 17 lol but cool bro I'm just giving ya abit of shit. Keep it up. What ever happened to you having a mma/boxing fight? I remember you saying it earlier in your journal.. Or did that not really eventuate..
