Fark! Losing the battle with my cold (maybe the 'flu? My neck is a bit stiff this morning). I've been downing the water and vitamins, and even bought some of that first defence stuff. Thought I'd kill it before it got set in, but that doesn't appear to be working. Hope it doesn't effect my strength too much.

Yeah there is a lot of bugs going around, couple of ladies off earlier in the week with fever, headaches, stiff necks. Sleep & rest lots takes about 3 days to get over apparently.

Those 57's squats sound hardcore at 85% far out!

Dunno what rules you're competing under, but if it's allowed, I'd hit it hard with Lemsip max like P&W says, I doubt any sugar in it could affect your weight now...and shovel the fluids in, to avoid dehydration.

Fingers crossed it doesn't turn into the flu on Friday nite!

Just got back from the comp. Here's my quick results, I'll explain in detail below:

Squat:

120 - 3 whites, bar wasn't quite centred on my back which made it a tad interesting

130 - 1 white 2 reds, Not quite to depth but felt really easy so I decided to have a crack at 140

140 - 3 whites, came up really well (5kg pb)! Had another 5-10kg in me.

Bench

75 - 3 whites, flew up

80 - 3 whites, flew up

85 - 3 reds (didn't get it up). Very annoying.

Deadlift

155 - 3 whites, easy

165 - 3 whites, pretty good

175 - 3 whites, 10kg PB! Had another 5-10kg in me

Total: 395kg

Pretty happy with it all.

Squat:

120 - 3 whites, bar wasn't quite centred on my back which made it a tad. Was really awkward lifting it out and in hindsight I think I would have been allowed to rerack it and try again. Doesn't matter now though. I made sure I buried the depth and it came up easily.

130 - 1 white 2 reds, Not quite to depth but felt really easy so I decided to have a crack at 140. Setup was better this time, but I just didn't go low enough. The rep went up really easily so I thought I might as well try 140.

140 - 3 whites, came up really well (5kg PB)! Had another 5-10kg in me. I got up to the bar and got ready to get under when I realised that I hadn't tightened my belt. A few laughs all around. I made sure I hit depth this time and the rep was hard only for a tiny amount of time.

Bench:

I was quite unstable with all my lifts. Bar wobbling around a bit when I was waiting for the start call. I really thought I was going to get 85 but only got it to about 2 board. I'm going to have to do some serious work to get this lift up.

Deadlift:

Warmups seemed pretty hard, but the actual lifts went really well. Getting it off the floor was still the hardest part but I felt I had better speed than I normally did. Still had plenty left in the tank.

Highlights:

Brett the sub junior smashing some huge weights, our Swedish friend Niklas hitting a squat PB (that's what some Kiwi food does for ya!) and Troy another junior in my class hoisting a 220kg deadlift after only 3 months of lifting.

Awesome work, Dave. 4 plate deadlift very soon then!?

Go on... :D

Yeah definately 4 plates soon... well next time I deadlift heavy. Brett, I think he was 16/17 and weighed 77kg. Think he got a 150/160 squat, 120 bench (just missed 130) and 200 deadlift (all raw).

Great stuff mate. Bench will increase with time and increased training. The good thing is you have a comparitively strong DL and that's exactly what one wants to have as a PL.

Yeah it just progresses slower than the other lifts. I'm not too worried because I have good lockout strength, so will dominate once in a shirt.

Outstanding results SS, well done! You should be well stoked! NOW you can get the flu!

Thanks. The cold's pretty much gone now, just got a bit of a cough and a snotty nose. Going to Nelson on Monday for a week and a half so I'll probably only get a few training sessions in.

Went into some random gym in Richmond (Nelson), fairly average but at least it had a squat rack... Didn't have a belt either so that kind of restricted me.

Squats

5*20

5*40

5*60

5*80

5*100

3*120

1*120 - stopped at one because the bar was slipping down my back. It had no knurling and I was sweaty.

Deadlift

5*60

5*80

3*110

3*140

Deads weren't feeling very good so I left it at that. I don't think I should have gone as heavy as I did on either lift. Oh well. Can't wait to get back into "The House".

Going a bit stir crazy at the moment. My girlfriend doesn't arrive in Nelson until tomorrow and my cousins are all at school or not arrived back from uni yet. If I can get away with it I will go to the gym tomorrow. In the mean time I've reasserted myself to my stretching routine. I'm going to log my efforts here (every day), so make sure you tell me off if I'm not stretching.

Did all stretches for 30 secs.

Squat stretch

Butterfly stretch

Hip flexors (both legs)

Hamstrings

All x3

Feeling nice and loose now, can touch the floor with my palms without bending the knees. Still more stretching needed because I think my tight hamstrings sometimes tilt my torso forward at the bottom of my squats (turning it into a good morning).

Yeah the weather has been amazing. Drove out to Kaiteriteri today, pretty stunning scenery. Nelson is my home away from home so I'm pretty used to the cold. Just had a spa, it was 38 degrees in the water and -1 out of it :).

Bro,

You better get back to The House smartly, don't want you gettin tainted by mirrors, and trying to improve your guns :naughty:

OB

6 more days to go! I'll be doing squats tomorrow in the room without mirrors, that should keep me sane in the mean time.

Box Squats

Don't know exactly how high it was, maybe 15/16"?

5*20

5*40

5*60

5*80

3*100

2*120

No belt and didn't really feel like pushing myself

Front Squats

5*60

2*80

1*90

1*100

1*110

0*120

Just wondering what I could do on these now.

Reverse Hypers

Well I attemped to do reverse hypers... but the machine was not secured to the floor, so it would end up moving around while I was swinging, tried putting weights on it to no avail so I gave up. I asked the receptionist lady how people normally used it, she had no idea.

GHRs

10*BW

8*BW w/ hands behind head

8*BW+5kg

Back in the House. Still just muddling around til Monday when I start my new programme...

2" Deficit Deadlifts

2*40

2*70

2*90

6 sets of 2*105 - focussing on speed

Heavy sets

3*115

3*125

3*135 - PB

Could have done more but I realised that this will be my last opporunity to deadlift heavy for a couple months so I decided to have a crack at four plates. Definately wasn't in top physical condition but worth a shot anyway.

Deadlift

1*140

1*160

1*180 - PB, previous 1*175 on 14/6

Slowest and ugliest lift I've ever done, but it went up :).

GHRs

8*BW

Urgh, too tired.

Reverse Hypers

Couple light sets of 10 to loosen the back up.
