that looked tiring, well done on the 3x15x100 hard stuff that

do you always do your reps so fast ?

I guess I was wondering the same thing SS - the amount of weight moved is the same, but I was taught about "time under tension" - doing them slower... maybe that's a bb'er versus p/l thing?

I'd be interested in the logic anyway, all I know is if I tried those weights that fast it would a) be over REAL quick, and b) I'd fetch up stapled to the floor! Great work, keep it up.

Hey L,

Everthing we do is fast, it is all about the movement ie DE day 3 reps of the Bench under 3 seconds 2.2-2.5 are good times, Squat 2 reps under 4 Seconds.

It is all about Rate of Force Production, No Use Being Strong and Slow.

ah ok so this strictly a powerlifter thing coz id usually take 6 seconds for 2 squat reps

so time under tension has nothing to do with it, its just the amount of weight moved ?

but beacuse its making the weight a lot easier to lift wouldnt your strength also be going up slower ?

Bodybuilders train to get bigger muscles, thus time under tension is important. While a bigger muscle is a stronger muscle, it is not the only determinant in strength. The other factor is training your central nervous system to become more efficient at recruiting more muscle fibres. Hence why some smaller guys are stronger than bigger guys.

At the moment I'm more training for size than my CNS. After a few months back training Westside I should get the full effect of my programme (i.e. my CNS will catch up to my muscle mass).

As a side note, I need to buy some more jeans, my legs are getting HYOOGE.

Saturday's effort:

7/8/9/10/11/12 reps @ 115kg

Argh. Got wasted by this. Failed on the last rep of the set of 11, then only got 8 on the last set. Waited a while and tried again and managed 11 reps, should have got the 12. Better pick up my act for Tuesday.

Just out of curiosity SS, what's the rest between sets? That looks brutal!

It's meant to be only 2 minutes, but it was designed for those fit Olympic lifters. My rest tends to be a wee bit longer. Though yesterday I was probably around the 3 minute mark.

2m rests would make it savage, even three's good doing unless you're East German! Great work, maybe I'll have to drop in on the Dec comp to see what it's like!

Due to sickness and dicky shoulder I gave the Sunday bench session a miss. I think it helped, I needed a bit more time out of the gym.

Squats

5/6/7/8/9/10 reps @ 120kg (my competition opener from June)

Squatting to a slightly higher box to stop my lower back rounding, so it was slightly easier. I emphasise slightly, 120kg is still 120kg. Got all the reps and discovered I could save a lot of energy by really firing my hips through. Shoulder hurt like a bitch after each set though.

Did 3 sets of hanging leg raises and blast chain abs after too.

If by "drop in" you mean compete. Then yes definately!

Squats

5 sets of 15 @ 102.5kg

The weight itself was easy enough, but I was getting dizzier than normal.

Tried to do some deads but shoulder wouldn't allow it

Should prehab/rehab

Seatbelts / Swords

3 sets of 10 each side / 3 sets of 8 each side

Hopefully these will help sort the shoulder.

I didn't really have a proper breakfast this morning and ate right before my workout. So I guess that could be the cause.

Thursday is actually my easy day too! Although the the volume is higher the lower weight more than makes up for it. Got 122.5kg for 5 to 10 reps on Thursday, should be fun.

I'm watching the doco on the 190kg 15y/o at the moment. He went on a 2 week protein shake only diet! Crazy shit. I think I could live off protein shakes. I still haven't got sick of my balance whey protein, must have gone through a good 4kgs of it by now. The stuff tastes better than chocolate milk.

Damn, I forgot that was on.... I dunno about live off protein shakes tho - I picked-up some ON sachets the other day, how can anyone eat Rocky Road flavour - ICK! but I do like my Dymatize Berry Blast =P~

When you say 5-10, I take it you mean 5-6-7-8-9-10? Ow.

Squats

5/6/7/8/9/10 reps @ 122.5kg

Managed to do these reasonably easily. OB noticed I was twisting a bit on my last few reps. So going to step up the rotational core work and some more adductor/abductor work.

Russian Twists / DB Side Bends

3 sets of 15 / 3 sets of 10*70lb each side

Spent some time watching/helping the people going to nationals today. Did some bench after and the shoulder help up. Ended up doing a PB 3*77.5kg, but then failed at an attemped at 85kg paused. Also did some rehab/prehab stuff for shoulders and some abductor work. Got to go write 1500 words due tomorrow now :(.
