virgo1978
How much sleep do you get at night & would you still train if it were less than 5 hrs?????
Marcus
I try to get a minimum of 8 hours each night, although sometimes this doesn't happen. Each person is different but if I get less than 7 hours I can't concentrate & my training sucks. If you can still concentrate with less than 5 hours then I don't see the harm in training. You do need sleep though to recover adequately.
chchardgainer
wouldnt bother training on less than 5 hours as id feel exhausted and lethargic try to get 8 hours a night althgouh usually ends up being 7 , weekends i tend to compensate and get at least 10 hours. AK
Sleep is one of the factors I need to improove on... Been inconsistent with it lately... Not enough sleep will incrase cortisol by quite a bit ... bad news if you trying to pack on muscle :? I feel good if I get 7-8 hours per night tho... virgo1978
If your in a situation like me where how many hours sleep you get each night is out of your control, I guess you have to soldier on and train anyway or it may be years before you train again. Unless it's a particularly bad night sleep, like 5 hours of broken sleep!I do feel pretty terrible most mornings but my husband and I had a conversation recently, 'do we wait until we are getting a full nights sleep before we start training seriously or just train like a horse anyway'?Iv'e been training anyway but he finds it impossible to train on such little sleep, pity you need to sleep, you could accomplish so much more if you didn't need to. virgo1978
Small children who think sleep is highly over-rated, the littlest one 11 months wakes 4 times a night and wants to get up to start the day about 5am????

Cammo
I normally get around 6 hours a night - I seem to function pretty well on that.Different strokes for different folks though.
Dumbelldog
Basically you just need to sleep as much as you can, if you get only 5hrs one night I would and have still trained just get more next time, there is no right and wrong here.

virgo1978
Not saying there is a right or wrong answer dumbelldog, just interested to know how much sleep people need to function & train?I have been training on 5 hours of broken sleep a night & no make up sessions for 6 months now, just wondering if anyone else has ever had to do the same? Dumbelldog
Not saying there is a right or wrong answer dumbelldog, just interested to know how much sleep people need to function & train?Could you train on 5 hours of broken sleep a night & no make up sessions? I have been doing this for 6 months now, your body really does get use to it, it's just like being in the army around here!Sorry Virgo I was sounding a little silly there, if you find that you still have the energy to train effectively then it would be fine just be careful not to over train. AlBundy
All depends how deprived of it I am. Usually i'm all good after a late one to train too many late ones in a row and im not though.
KooKoo
Can't remember the last time I ever had a night of unbroken sleep and never more than 6-7 hours which kinda sucks but your body gets used to it I think. And I don't even have kids!! Yep you ARE an amazing woman virgo! Some people need more sleep than others. I reckon listen to your body - if you can physically train, do it, if not, give yourself a rest... not that looking getting up at all hours and running around after your kids is a rest, but you know what I mean! virgo1978
Thanks Kookoo, but I wasn't trying to imply I was anything special by still training, just wondered if most people would train anyway or wait till they were getting more zzz's. Manu
Kids certainly don't care how much sleep you are getting!! You are a real trooper virgo for still training with that dreaded broken sleep. I bet once your little one starts sleeping through the night that you will wake to check up on her anyway.I usually get about 7 hours of broken sleep, sometimes because of the kids but often due to my bladder!!
mike-311
I have been training for years on 5-6 hours sleep.I cant say I waisted all that time, cos I have big muscles now as opposed to when I first started out.I think diet is more important then sleep, cos sleep you can always catch up on quickly.
