After some time off these I have decided to harden up again and get back on the tuna shake. Here are some recipes I have found:

TUNA Gainer '07

1 can TUNA in water

2 cups skim milk

100g rolled oats

4 large ice cubes

Blend until creamy. Drink it slowly. (Forget usual weight gainers, this stuff is cheaper and more effective)

The OFFICIAL D/FW Assault Crew Tuna Shake

2 cans Tuna in water(or oil if on Bodyopus Diet)

2 cups water or skim milk

4 large ice cubes

Blend until smooth & creamy. This is a must for any hardcore lifter.

HARDCORE TUNA SHAKE - Chef Tony (ain't got no surname)

200gm Tuna in Water (Drained of course)

1+1/4 Pint Semi-Skimmed Milk

2 Large Raw Eggs

2 Medium Sized Bananas

3 Heaped Teaspoons Protein Suppliment (Egg and Milk Whey)

In a blender, one pint mid-morning and one pint mid-afternoon.

TUNA SHAKE, BOSTON STYLE!!!* (aka "Tuna Chowder”)

2 - 7 oz cans of chunk white tuna packed in oil

1 - 16 oz bottle of "V-8" vegetable drink

2 - 1 tsp of WHITE Worcestershire sauce

1/2 clove of garlic

1/4 Sweet Vidalia Onion

Place the contents in a food processor and set to "puree" for 90-120 seconds.

Pour in a large bowl and allow to chill in the refrigerator for 1 hour. Garnish with a sprig of parsley.

Let you know how they go

There not all that bad, great source for a quick protein fix while at work etc.

So is whey... and the girls don't mind kissing you after a whey shake either.

Why don't you just buy some protein powder?

You generally have to eat 100gms of tuna to get 25gms of protein - I get about that out of 1 scoop of powder.

I use protein powder as well, in fact I used to add a half can tuna to my protein shakes. Although it has been suggested that the human body can only process 27 grams of protein at a time this has not been studied on bodybuilders or athletes who, because of the need of amino's for muscle repair and growth, i feel, would be able to process and utilise a lot more.

The tuna shake was part of Arnie's diet and I have no problems consuming 1-2 cans per day by shake.

its about the 52gram mark after a hard workout that the average grown adult male can process of protein at once.

Have you got any controlled studies to support this?

I dont think there is an average for what we can synthisise, its it to specific and alot of different factors contribute

2 scoops for my PWO shake.

Bodybuilders generally have a higher metabolism (if they're eating right) so they should be able to digest & process more protein than the average, non-workout joe.... especially after a workout when the muscles are screaming for protein.

Better to overcook on the protein than undercook I say.

Don't get too hung up on studies either... If it works, keep doing it!

I know bro I keep telling myself to look for something different but once I get to the supermarket I always end up chucking tins of tuna in the trolley :pfft:

Hahaha! Me too. I can't walk past a tin of tuna if it's on special. Same with other meat too, actually. I've had to firmly resist my squirrelling tendencies recently, because it's getting hard to fit anything more in the freezer. Obsessive hoarder? I think I may have a problem...
