NZFBB Nationals 2007 - photos!

Just a quick question - If I place in the mens classic at the taranaki comp then bulk up and no longer fit the weight requirements by the nationals next year does that mean I cant compete or that I would just go into what ever open class I fitted into?

Don't worry, Ed - we'd be a bit mean to say you couldn't compete at all if you failed to make the weight for Classic. You would be placed in the appropriate Open weight class instead. Generally, you must compete in the class you qualify in - but this would be one of the few exceptions. Therefore, to compete in Classic at Nationals you must qualify in that class at a regional event.

Because I placed top 3 at nationals I assume that means I cant compete novice at the Nakis? And if so I would embarrass myself on stage in the mens open 80 to 90! I know some of the guys in that class from the nats are coming down.

Yes, Ed - you are no longer a Novice competitor, so your options are Open or Classic (assuming you fit the height/weight ratio). And don't be so modest - you certainly wouldn't embarass yourself in the Open Over 80kg class. Of the 5 in that class at Nationals I know two of them won't be competing and I doubt that one other won't be, leaving just two possibles.

Mike K Thanks for the comments. Was the most memorable win of my 14yrs competing. and some of the best fun on stage with Dan Hibbs.

Ed_aish Now I am sure that you can compete as a novice for 12 noths since your regional win if you won your regional. then you become open. if you wish to do nationals next yr you need to qualify as an open. Just do it i say! never be afraid to approch us more experenced competitors and ask Q (just not when we are pumping up) I will be at the nakis but talked to phil k last night and decided to guest pose (as had flights, as was going there to qualify for Nationals 08). so if you head to the show on the 3rd please dont be shy!

Jo did look fantastic i didnt get to see her routine but did some photos with her on sunday. check out http://www.muscle-xpo.co.nz

I beleive she will also be down at the nakis which is cool, as give my lady Gretchen chance to catch up.

I came 3rd at my regional in wellington but because I placed top 3 at nationals that means I am now in the open. That is right?

yes you are open from now on.

im 18 on friday so i would be over 18 on the day of the show, so would i still be able to do teenage? and if yes does that mean i can stil do teenage next year nationals?

Yes, Big_J - you can still do the Teenage class next week. The new ruling this year from the IFBB for age-restricted classes means you can compete as a Teenage ANYTIME during the year that you turn 18 - even after your 18th birthday. Similarly, someone who turns 40 late in the year (say Dec 31), qualifies as a Masters Over 40 competitor from Jan 1 that year - even though they are only 39 for most of the year.

and if yes does that mean i can stil do teenage next year nationals?

That's a very good question which makes the new rule a bit hard to apply when this show next week is actually a qualifier for 2008. Technically, even though you may qualify as a Teenager next week, you will already be 18 on Jan 1 next year, meaning you would have to do the Junior class at Nationals next year. Hey - given the way for dominated the Teenage class last weekend, you'd probably do the same in Juniors next year anyway!!

What is the ratio for the Classic I can't seem to find it on the NZFBB site.

Under 170cm: height (cm) - 98 = max weight (kg)

170-178cm: height (cm) - 96 = max weight (kg)

Over 178cm: height (cm) - 94 = max weight (kg)

e.g. I am 183cm tall, so I can be up to 183 - 94 = 89kg .... I was 82kg at Nationals, so I've got 7kg I can add to my old, skinny bod and still qualify for Classic! :pfft:

Scott competed in Sydney at the Australian Naturals on Sunday after the nationals, and from what I'm told by a friend who was there completely cleaned up his class, and was a serious contender for the Overall.

I'd be surprised to see him fly back in, unless he's racking up those airpoints, have your heard anything Waldo?

More importantly ...another guy named Mike wins the Overall!!!

I thought the highlights were the Novice Under 70 and Under 80s.

The Open Under 70's, 1% harder and I think Supri could have Daniel, great quality of competition.

The Open Under 90's...probably the single best quality lineup in the history of the NZFBB, worth the price of entry alone.

The Overall battle between Mike and Daniel, absolute hair splitter.

Jo S, should have suited up and walked away with another Overall in her sleep....she looked at 7 weeks out like she was 7 weeks ahead of the rest onstage that night.

Dragonlor....tough call, I would have had you 1st...phenominal condition and structure.

cheers good to hear our class was one to remeber most novice classes get forgoten bout when the open classes come on. open under 70kg was outstanding definatly gives me a drive to keep training

Couldn't agree with you more michaelk. For a girl wanting to compete in physique classes whilst still looking feminine, Jo is very inspirational. It would be great to see more girls heading into the physique categories -hopefully Jo's show on Sat night has sparked some interest from others...

Cheers Gretchen

I look forward to catching up with you, Ed, diamond plus many others at next weeks show! Not sure if I'll do Classic or Masters Over 40 - will make up my mind once I see what shape I'm in.
