Hi Guys, I'm new to these forums, I have been posting on Bodybuilding.com for awhile (under the same profile name if you want to cheack out my stats http://bodyspace.bodybuilding.com/Mike-311/ )

However I never thought of sourcing out a NZ one and I'm glad I have, so here I will probably stay.

Im really wanting to train for and enter a NZ Strongman comp, but dont have a friggin clue where to start, can anyone here help me out with this?

In the mean time I'll have a scout around the forums and see what I can find.

Thanks, and nice to meet you all.

Mike, sorry to tell you but strongman has pretty much died in NZ. If I were you I'd head down to the one in MT Eden Old Bull posted on.

I'm disappointed that the sport doesn't have much following here, after finishing with weightlifting I was hoping to get into strongman, but getting to WSM or overseas comps seems to be pretty difficult.

x2, I'm keen as to get some Strongman events in on the side in the future but I hear nothing about Strongman in NZ, except for that "Big is good" guy.

Yeah,

I had a creeping feeling about that especially after I read an article about one dude who competed, who went on to say it was mostly cardio type events, but he did really well in the strength events.

You just dont hear about it anywhere at anytime in the media.

I kinda wondering if powerlifting maybe the way to go.

I just want to be a part of something especailly locally if possable.

Im not into Bodybuilding compitions, nothing against it, just not for me.

At the moment I only use it for my job in security which is handy, but not the be all, end all.

Powerlifting and Olympic lifting are probably your best bets. I'm not in powerlifting due to all the supportive gear use and feel I have better Oly lifting potential. No reason why you can't do powerlifting and compete in strongman/oly lifting for fun, same with highland games which are on a few times a year.

rock on another convert. i r4eckon you'll enjoy this one, no abuse, and no real political views are really expressed here. :) have fun

LOL, I didnt understand any of that. but it sounded cool :shifty:

I changed my avatar back into a sheep, and I think Im gonna go with it.

I like the sheep.

However, we all had to sit through L&P top town in the 80's.

Why not a decent strength competitions in the 2000's.

Kinda blows really.

What is it with yuppies and cardio anyway................Oh I know, you cant talk on you cell phone and pump iron at the same time.
