Olympic Weightlifting Nationals, October 6th (Sat).

So the Weightlifting Nationals are coming up soon, in less than two weeks.

There are going to be very close battles in several bodyweight classes, so will be very entertaining to watch.

Entry is FREE and you can bring as many people as you like because the venue is huge. This venue (Bruce Mason centre) will be used for Oceania championship in 2008, which is also an Olympic Qualifying event for 2008 Olympics.

Address is Bruce Mason Centre, Auckland, North Shore (Takapuna).

Just a little preview of the venue:

P.S. I will have bodyweight class start times soon!

I'm lifting too, totally looking forward to it. Well, bar for the fact that I got sore knees, shoulders and left elbow. Ah well! :pfft:

You all NEED to be there to watch Grant Cavit (4th Comm games 94kg class) take on Richie Patterson (4th Comm games 77kg class) in the 85kg class around midday. 170-180kg clean and jerks are gonna go flying overhead.

Expensiveurine and I are lifting at 3pm onwards.

What time does it all start?

9am- 56, 62,69kg men

11am- All women

1pm- 77,85kg men

3pm- 94, 105, 105kg+

Theres around 10 lifters each session. Standard to qualify is quite high, so rules out most of the schoolboy lifters and those who haven't competed for long. For example, you need to clean and jerk around a minimum of 130kg to compete in the last session.

I'll give you a rough breakdown of the athletes from memory as I don't have the final start list with me (this will be decided a day before comp at a technical meeting, which means that some athletes may move up or down a class). NOTE: these are not ALL lifters competing, I'm just trying to figure out who will have the closest battles in the competition, everything can still change.

62kg class:

Cam Sinclair (NZ junior champ)

69kg class:

Cody Cole (NZ junior champ)

77kg class:

Caleb Symon (NZ team)

Andy Britton (NZ team)

Mark Spooner (Com games 2006, NZ Team)

85kg class:

Richie Patterson (Com games 2006, NZ Team, Qualified for Olympic games 2008)

Grant Cavit (Com games 2002, 2006, NZ Team)

Andy Rogers (NZ Team)

94kg class:

Jono Selkirk (NZ Team)

105kg class:

Danny Nemani (NZ Team, my main target! :D)

Me. (NZ Team)

105+kg class:

BigMac (junior champ)

Tevita

Jono, do you know who's in 56,62,69?

Ianne Guinnares and Avantha H are in the 56kg I think

David Starkey, Cam and one other in the 62's.

Pala Molisa and Andy Elliot are coming up from WTGN for 94 and 105 respectively.

Te Vita Ngalu is a Tongan who has done 147kg snatch and 181kg clean and jerk recently.

77kg, 85kg and 105kg looks like the main battle classes. Someone will likely come up to 105kg+ class to challenge me for silver behind Te Vita.

40 lifters in all at the moment it seems.
