NZFBB Central North Island champs???

It wasn't the money....more like my father/boss letting me know that the disciplines of husbandry, fatherhood, and employment should come first. He then proudly announced that the entier week leading up to the nationals I would be away anyways....it just wasn't possible.

Between yourself and Terry and any others the classic should be a good class to watch. Good luck!

That's a real shame you won't be competing at Nationals, Waldo - I was looking forward to a tough battle with you after our tight finish at the North Island champs.

I don't know who the competitor was that competed in the Classic class at CNI's, but Keri Onyewu and Willie Walker (qualified by placing 1st and 2nd at the Australasian Champs) would definitely be top contenders at Nationals. Mind you, both have also qualified in other classes (Open Men (Keri) and Masters Over 40 (Willie)) so it would depend on what class they choose to compete in.

My pick for top spot would be between Keri and Dragonlor - I doubt I could magically improve enough in less than 3 weeks to be a serious threat!

I may try the mens classic next year but for the nats it is going to be novice 80 to 90kg.

the 80 to 90 novice class will be a good one this year at the nats. there have been a lot of good guys qualify in that class this year.. good luck ed.

Thanks - for me it is just a matter of improving on my last (first) comp - was tossing up not doing nats this year but want to do it for the experience.

Will give it 120% but not going to be disappointed wherever I place although...

Is it true only the top 5 in a class get to do their routines in the evening?

I feel I have made good improvements but it will be good to see myself up against some top guys and really see what I need to focus on in the next 12 months.

It has been a big year for me coming from Obese to here so if I can achieve as much in the next year...

yeah just losing that much weight was a big enough achievement in itself.

i saw some pics of joe stewart, i am truly gob smacked, that would have to be the best natural body iv ever seen for a female!!!

No doubt...my money is on Jo to take the World title this year. She already looks a mile ahead of where she was last year, shows the benefit of focusing on the one show, as I understand it Jo's skipping the Nationals this year.

Big question I can't wait to get answered is who is going to take the overall this year.....and the Under 90's looks like being the best class in the show, Mike D, Nik P, Paul Wood, Scott Reynolds, Grant A (just the ones that I can remember)...glad I'll be in the audience eating ice cream this time. Those last 3 will probably be the most ripped men in the whole show.

I agree, Mike - Jo is looking in awesome shape at the moment .... and especially for someone who will be 47 next month!

I also agree about the Open Under 90 class at Nationals - I was lucky enough to be competing at the South Island champs last weekend and witnessed the battle between Mike D and Paul W ... what amazing physiques!! The two of them are good mates and while they put total focus on their performances on stage there was a lot of friendly and entertaining by-play between them. At one point, as they were about to do a rear pose, the large video screen at the back of the stage was displaying an advert for Mike's PT business, incl a big pic of Mike in the middle of it. Paul waved to the pic and said "Hi Mike" which cause Mike and most of the audience to roar with laughter!

Hey - another Men's class that should be a beaut at Nationals is the Open Men Under 70, with the likes of Daniel Hibbs, Supry Sos and James Zimmermann among others doing battle. With the Nationals having 10kg weight class splits this year (instead of 5kg), a number of leading contenders won't even make it to the Overall lineup.

awww bugger i missed the battle between Mike D and Paul W, I had to leave to get some food cause i felt like i was gonna black out if i didn't eat something like right away.

Oh yea Mike D is my pt btw so i guess i owe him alot cause i wouldn't have had a clue what to do to prepare for the comp, he's really helped me heaps :D

That happened to me last year with Brian McFarlanes FitFigures advert "conveniently" popping up with a great back shot while we were doing our back shots......I smell a conspiracy!!!!!!!

In fact, MT I was disappointed to find that being the competitve guy you are, that you hadn't arranged flights to compete in both the Sth Island and CNI on the same day.....lack of committment :pfft: ?

MT why have they switched back to the 10kg increments? As you say, sounds like some true contenders are going to miss out.

Supri V Daniel: Round 2, they were the last comparison in the Overall last year, points decision to Daniel that time. Don't know how Daniel looks now, but Sup looked totally on the money in the North Island.

IMO Sup will take Scott as the last 2 times they met Sup wasn't in the condition he's in now, and he has a more complete physique.

But then, I'm sure that there will be a few other class winners that will have more than a few words to say about it.

Either way....its gonna be all on, i'm really excited and looking forward to it

Funny you should say that, Mike - I did actually wonder if it could be done (not that I'd actually do it). Here's how I could have done it:

10:05am - go on stage in the Mens Masters Over 40 class in Chch.

10:20am - walk off stage, out the back door and into a waiting helicopter to whisk me to Chch airport

10:40am - board one of my brother-in-laws private planes (he is a pilot and has his own flight school)

11:55am - arrive Tauranga airport and take waiting limo to CNI venue

12:10pm - arrive at CNI venue, touch up tan

12:20pm - after a quick pump-up, go on stage in Mens Open 80-90kg class.

12:45pm - get limo back to Tauranga airport, fly back to Chch and do it all again for the night show .... EASY!! :pfft:

MT why have they switched back to the 10kg increments?

The main reason is to prevent these classes (with 5kg splits) only having 2-3 competitors each, which does happen quite regularly. Having a 10kg split will ensure larger classes and make it even more "exclusive" to win a NZ Open Men's title.
