Hi,

I am a 41 year old mother of five. I have always been overweight reaching a massive 140.4 kilos 3 years ago. Went to Weight watchers ( again) and lost 46 kilos of which I regained most of the following year.

Last september i decided to do my own plan at home, better and less eating and lots of exercise and have dropped from 134 kilos to 76 (currently) and am feeling good.

Now I am getting worried about staying here. Hope to get some pointers from you folk.

I do 30 minutes each morning and most nights on a crosstrainer that my brother gave me and walk for an hour each morning.

My eating is nowhere near perfect but compared to my old habits its pretty jolly good.

I have a ton of loose skin which doesnt worry me too much as that is the price you pay for having been so overweight to start with.

I am wondering where to go from here. I really enjoy the level of fitness that i am at and would like to take it further but dont have a clue about what i am doing.

thanks for reading this,

hope you can give me some advice

Jenny

Well this is my eating plan! Take note that it has worked for me so far and i know it is far from ideal. But if you knew what i was eating before then i am now positively saintly!!!!

Kornies

Milk

Cup of tea

Fruit or nuts (small amount mixed)

Lunch is leftover plate from tea, with less meat and lots of vege cause I like a hot lunch, feels like i had something!

Yoghurt in my first break at work

Yoghurt, ww snack bar and cup of tea in my 2nd break at work

Tea. Meat and vege

ww jelly

2 squares chocolate

Please be kind: I know this is not right.

Hi Jenny. Welcome!

I think as long as you are worried about the weight slipping back on, you'll be fine. You just need to keep monitoring yourself, and tweaking diet/routine as necessary.

If you can find a visual reference point, that helps. I don't know if it's a practical answer for your situation, but personally, I know once I can no longer see any traces of abs no matter how I flex, then it's time to start tweaking the diet back into line.

Dunno if that answers your questions or not?! When you say you "would like to take it further" - what do you have in mind?

hi jenny

well done on the weight loss. Im no expert on the weight loss thing having struggled to put it on most of my life. But i think the answer is how you feel about yourself if u feel something needs to be done and can be done, do it. You have to hold your head up high and stand up and be counted. Remember beauty is inside and thats all that counts. Yes people do judge others before they know us. Thats their loss an you sound like you have a beautiful soul. I you are ever in my town come say hi.

I have set a tentative goal of 70 kilos which I was hoping to reach on my 1 year weight loss anniversary which is on the 15th Sept. I am realistic enough to realise that this will probably not happen as I have 6.6 kilos to go in 30 days!

My goal weight when I used to go to WW was 59 kilos but having been so big I am not really shooting for that.

When I say i want to take it further I would like to increase the fitness level and tone up. I know that the loose skin would need surgery to fix (which won't be happening) but there must still be a good bit that I can do to minimize my faults.

I would like to get some upper body strength and shape myself a bit.

I.E. I am not sure what I am doing. I just like the way I feel and almost like myself for the first time ever.

Good on ya! This is what I love about weight training - the fact that you can ultimately change the shape/look of your body by adding muscle.

Are you doing any weight training at the moment?

No weight training yet. this is why i need some advice on where to start. To be honest I don't even know what weight training consists of.. do you mean in a gym enviroment cause this could be awkward with time constraints not to mention cost.

Is is possible to do this at home? with weights etc.

Hey Jenny,

The Mot Rec Centre has a deal going at the moment where you can join up with a friend and only pay $260 each for a years membership. If you can't manage to go with in the opening hours (which are very flexible) or want to go on Sunday you can pay a one off fee of $25 to get a 24/7 access card.

Jeez I sound like an informercial. :pfft:

Anyway, it's the best gym in mot (don't get sucked into that Ladies Gym!) and training at home is a lot more expensive.

Thanks Mike,

Will consider it, although just been offered more hours at work and having trouble fitting everything in now. Will have to give it some serious thought.

That 'ladies' gym seems fairly restrictive on what amount of time you can spend there etc.

WELL DONE! It is a year ago now that I started my weight loss I thought I had done well but what you have achieved is amazing. As far as the loose skin goes give it a year once you have reached your goal weight and you may be surprised how much it stretches back. Weight training will help a lot especially with the arms etc as you can fill in some of the loose skin with muscle. Bio oil can also help with this. I have a some loose skin around my stomach (I lost over 40cm) but now it is not too noticeable.

Anyway good on you and stick with it, anything is possible.

  • 3 weeks later...

Hi

And welcome. Your Journey so far sounds amazing. Seems as if you are now standing firm on more wicked improvements. Cardio is all I can say for you at the mow, burn those calories and that fat, keeping in mind a good balanced diet, sounds to me you are heading in the right direction, everyone knows something but in the end its you who decides. Perhaps increase the cardio and direct you monies first to seeing a nutrionalist and good foods from the shop. Hope things get trimmer and easier, as it does......keep us posted....oh...and take pics of yourself...say 3 - 4 weeks apart...its a good scope for your progress and seeing the changes for yourself is a booster....ciao

Thanks for that, am certainly doing plenty of exercise! But back at work now, after 2 weeks off, so will scale it back a bit. Am at 72 kilos and loving it. Hubby just bought me a new bike, cant wait!

Have photos of me at both 140 kilos, and at 100 kilos so nice to have for comparison, especially since I don't like having photos taken.

Onwards and downwards (size wise anyway)
