goinhard
was looking for a club really rather than a gym, i cant justify $800+ for a years membership when i get the university one for $160.
Ann
Hey budUnfortunately there are no clubs in NZ for powerlifting. If you are choosing to do this sport Powerhouse Gym is where its at in Wellington. Great people and the guys know what they are talking about. Yes it is pricey, but perhaps you can talk with them - and who knows you maybe able to get a deal. Like anything - you get what you pay for. Yeah, uni's are cheap, however, I bet you anything those wishing to undertake a specific sport will either do one of two things. 1) Join another gym or 2) Get in touch with a coach or trainer who specializes in that particular sport and ask them to attend the gym where they are at. More often than not some PT's or trainers can be a bit precious about this when a client decides to bring an outsider into their gym!! However, whatever you decide to do, these are just some ideas for you to think about. Train hard. Keep Well

Bench 95kgSquat 95kg (working on that)deadlift 145kgraw obviously.G,To be a Powerlifter Before you could join The House your Squat would have to beat your Bench. No one joins this Gym with a Bench equal or bigger than their Squat.MZ does alright training by himself, so there is no reason why the Uni Gym should not keep you ticking along. It is only when you start to up the ante that you may need help spotter wise. Heaps of people train away from The House, some it is distance, some money, some already committed to another gym. They come along to our Powerlifting comps about 4 a year to test themselves maybe you can do that. Depends on what your priorities are, and how far you want to go in the sport. Before we teach someone Powerlifting they have to Squat to parallel 100kgs for 20 reps that tell us whether they have the metal to last in this game. We will not waste our time teaching people, and then they suddenly find out it is not as easy as they thought. There is a wall full of Tombstones of those who quit, As heaps Talk the Talk but do not Walk the walk.At your Body weight there could be a exception maybe 20 reps at 90kg. Our last Junior Carnivore did 92.5kgs for 20 reps flipped our 237kg tire 500lb 10 times in 51 seconds. He is at Vic but wants to be a Powerlifter, so makes the choice.Bro do not take this heart.Stay StrongTrain hardLift BigOB. 8)

goinhard
Its my fault, i neglected to do squats for my two years at the gym, deadlifts for 1.5 years. Spent the xmas holidays reading books ebooks, bodybuilding.com etc learnt shitloads. Have been doing squats for a few months and am adding about 5kg per month now. Before the end of the year my squat will far exceed my bench. Was just looking for like minded people in real life really, thought there may have been something. Was just inspired to look when i read this, now i realise that was a weak category judging by the strength of the others."Under 19 75kg 1st Ming Ming Edgar (Northland) - squat 115kg, bench press 82.5kg, deadlift 140kg, total 337.5kg "

It was good to see him lift.Qualifying Total for Sub Jnr 75kg is 390kg, 82.5kg 410kg. Do any powerlifters lift stiff leg?Answer: It is a good assistant exercise for Hammies and Lower backYes: It is reducing your power. Your optimum leverage's for pulling are all out. Once you hit Double Body Weight, injuries could and will occurNo: Only the very rare PLs, from Old School. You would be down by maybe 50kgs to 100kgs. Its a wonder the Uni Gym would let you do that, SLDLs are banned in a lot of Gyms well Fitness Centres.OB 8)

However trying to shed some unwanted body fat is probably a good thing. You could take some time out and read this article... see if you find it informational:http://www.t-nation.com/readArticle.do?id=460638... as for getting stronger...Something general to get you started....http://www.t-nation.com/readArticle.do?id=485341 Than probably:http://www.elitefts.com/documents/9week ... rogram.htmjust some ideas  Good luck with your training.... don't be shy to ask questions

gazzanov12
Goinhard ,Bro if you wanna get anywhere in Powerlifting go to THE HOUSEany money you pay for membership there will save you thousands compared to any other GYM in Wellington.Forget what other people think or what youve learned about what, where and how youve lifted and go to the house. The House is a different GYM from any other,House members have all been Novices and Newbies so we know everyone is different some are naturally strong some are freaks and most have to train hard,House members care about other members theres a different atmosphere there(like family),House members coach each other(if your technique is shit someone will tell you how to fix it),House Members gain more from each workout because we have been there done those stupid exercises that build nothing but TANK TOP FITNESS so we know what builds your total and what doesnt(Gayble Crossovers)Anyway BRO get down there to the House spend the money and Become a Powerlifter dont waste your time over a few bucks.Gazzanov
SOUFAKL
Hey G, How long u been training for???I understand ur situation with squating and age, as i have been in the U19 and same weight as urself in past, but i had experienced lifters helpin' me in the beginnin'.For me bein' put through alot of leg training in my first 3mnths of weight training was good mentally,As for u having no trainer and still manage strength training on all body parts is good. IT GOOD TOO SEE A YOUTH COME OUT AND SAY THEY WANNA DO POWERLIFTING. "havin' more juniors is good for the sport"
goinhard
all together must be 2 years now, although a reasonable chunk of that was wasted as another noob in the gym doing a million sets of bench and bicep curls and eating 3 crap meals a day haha.
