Sonny Schmidt Classic

I didn't realise you were competing, Big_J. How did it go?

I've just looked back over the photos, and if you're who I think you are, you looked pretty good. You could have come in leaner, but that's an awesome set of biceps you're wearing! My only suggestion would be to work on your posing a little bit more. The way you present your body on stage makes a huge difference to how good it looks. Did you see Tony Ligaliga pose at the evening show? You should book a few sessions with him before your next comp. :)

What was the reason the judges pulled several classes off the stage during pre-judging?

I recall three classes having to come backstage:

1. In a women's physique class, one lady with long hair did not have it tied up - this is required for physique competitors, but not figure. She just had to get a hair tie so she could put it up.

2. In one of the large Novice Men's classes (10 or 11 competitors), 3 of the competitors had studs in their ears - physique competitors (male or female) are not allowed to wear jewellery or have visible piercings (Prince Alberts are OK I guess! :pfft: ) But, apparently (I didn't know this before) - you are allowed to wear a wedding ring.

3. In the Open Mens 70-80 class, one competitor was wearing two-toned trucks - they must only be one colour. Apparently the competitor registered wearing black trunks, but decided to wear different ones for the pre-judging.

I was stage marshal, and accept that I should have done a final check for the ear studs, even though this was supposed to have been checked downstairs (where it is light enough to see). The two tone trunks was subtle and impossible to detect by the stage curtain due to it being very dark. And I did not know about long hair having to be tied up - something to remember for future comps.

As well as making sure competitors were in the right numerical order to go on stage, plus wearing their numbers and on the correct (left hand side), it is difficult to check everything last minute with a large class. I reckon about 6 competitors lined up with no number (they had to rush back downstairs to get it) and about 10 had to swap it from right to left.

I reckon the judges did the right things to pull these classes off to get the indiscretions sorted - plus disqualifying competitors with obscenities in their music. It may seem a bit pedantic, but at least they are sticking to the rule book and not doing their own thing.

hahaha big ups to that dude man!Very melvinesque i must say, mixed up with a bit of everything. that's the kind of attitude everyone should have on stage;to have fun, after months of dieting and prep, it must suck big time if there's no effort given into the routine...respect to that dude :)

a big turn out. classes looked good, and from the link above looked like some went all out for the routine. it is a shame that the class was pulled. but I think more of a shame the competitors didn't look up the rules before they joined up to know what they needed to do. judeges did the right thing i think to pull them off, but that's just my opinion. either way wish i had made it to the show to have a watch. big ups to the site photographer :P
