Oh and my shed if flooded af atm

What do you think @Realtalk you think this DL set up is better?

Hard to tell bro. I mean you arent going to  be kneeling down like that at comp, you only doing that cause you have got your straps tight round the bar (I do the same thing).

I like to get a good grip of the bar, and I don't like rushing this is why I spend longer down at the bar. In saying that if I spend too long bent over and thrusting my knees in and out simulating the first part of the lift it can phyche me out. I don't like to rush others do. Lift looks good though.

your squat opener looks too heavy bro. A guy bombed today at that gpc comp cause his tested squat was slow like yours was and he bombed. It's dumb. Mind you it was a near max attempt 5 days out so what expect lol. take 10kg off it and rocket it up. Give yourself confidence going into your second.

My squats are always slowish. I normally end up taking 5 off anyway cause my opener can be slow. Was last time. I'll drop 10 off it just means a big jump to second. Like 170-192.5. In comp I do kneel down. Your allowed to. And I get my hook grop set

agreed. Should have seen my opener at my last meet. Almost missed it. Was lucky I took 5 off it. I always find my opener slow and then second blows up. It's weird

Confidence bro. 22.5kg isn't a big jump.  My last comp I opened close to 270 and my last warm up was 220. On deadlift I opened on 305 and my last warm up was 260. On bench last year I usually had 185 as my opener and my last warm up would be 160. Learn to be comfortable with bigger jumps in weight. That's what training is for - feeling and getting used to the weight. Not a competition.

there is absolutely no reason anyone should miss their opener and if they do then they should never miss it again on their second. It's just poor attempt selection and nothing to do with having a bad day or having bad luck... It's just dumb! Don't be that person bro.

its like if you told these people to opener 10-20kg lighter before the comp then they would look at you as if you are stupid. But then they bomb lol so get a 0 total as opposed to a total 10-20kg less than they thought would get. Then you look at them like they stupid.

Watch all my openers in all my comps I done. All easy and fast. Had no impact on what I total.

Not  planning on being "that guy" any time soon bro. Ive always opened pretty conservatively anyway, just that first squat can be nervy. I do think it sets you up for a better meet if the openers are smoked. less fatigue going into 2nds and 3rds. so you think 170/190/205 will be good attempts for squat

Yeah I don't understand small close jumps in weight that are close to your max. If you do Attempt 1 at 92% then attempt 2 at 97% then are you really going to be able to have the physical and mental capacity to get your 3rd attempt at 102% or whatever the goal weight is from the training cycle? I doubt it.

thats just an example btw.

not the strategy or game plan I have ever used.

id say 170 if I was your coach

Definitely taking it on board. 170 would be around 75percent so should bury it. My main competition had his opener in insta. He is opening at 202.5 when his best is 210. I've got him on bench tho. Will probably come down to deads

Crazy stuff man. That doesn't leave him much margin for error. So example he may pitch forward in his squat at the bottom coming out the hole because he is nervous and hasnt set his feet like he normally does. So if it's a high percentage squat it's not going to be easy to recover from and this is how people fail, then they panic and then they bomb their comp.

when is your comp bro?

Got a new bar today so thought id nut out my openers. New bar has less whip. Felt amazing on the 160 set and equally as fast on the 170. only issue was i must be used to the whip at the bottom. Still 170 is cake. Elbows were sore af on squats and not much better on bench. Must be the cold snap down here. Anyway the bench reinforced the idea to open lighter here too. 120 still a bit slower than i want. two reps before that were good though.

What about this for opener @Realtalk ?

Checked weight tonight on the comp scale. 94.3 at 5pm after eating souvlaki for lunch and drinking 5l water today. Will drop water down and eat light from here. Weigh in is at 11. I've never really taken my weight close so but nervous about that. Already got rack heights. Ready to kill

Looks like making weight will be pretty easy. That'll mean you won't have to rebound and should be lifting what you want without the added stress of being dehydrated and tired from it.

Nice one.

Yeah kilo shouldn't be an issue from night before

Just got back from comp. Weighed in at 92.2 .Crappy performance  tbh. disappointed wit myself. Was a poorly run comp. But I shouldn't complain. They still did a good job. I was supposed to be in the first flight. Warmed up for the first flight. The someone told me I was in the second flight. They had stuffed up. Couldn't change it back. So had to wait till second flight. Took a single at 140 to stay warm. Opener was easy enough. The change kind of threw my whole comp off a bit. Attempts as follows

Squat

170 good

187.5 good

202.5 xXxX

Bench

115 good

122.5 good

127.5 xXxX. Felt good till halfway then just stopped. f*ck it

210 good

230 xXxX

232.5 xXxX

On these last two deads my hook grip failed, I tore a big callous by my right pinkie. bleeding everywhere, I also used some tape on my thumbs first two attempts which I don't normally do. On the second attempt it started slipping that's what started things. Real annoying as I had basically locked them both out before dropping them. So I have now learnt that if I want to do hook I need good callous and I need to do it more in training, as I think I may have retrained from it a bit. I didn't bomb, and that's life, and that's powerlifting!

520 total
