Building up for Nats.

Thought I might start a little log on here of my prep for nats.  Finally did my first comp and although I was shaking like hell before my first lift after that it was the first time in my life I was able to set aside that anxiety and just enjoy myself. Seeing the first 900kg total in NZ by Hamish,  Tom pulling 325 beltless , Kate Mitchell lifting more than most men can including i think what was 132.5 on the bench weighing 76 kg and so many people hitting p.bs and records it made for a wicked day.  Didn't quite hit what I am capable of but very happy with how everything went . So the new goal for me is to try and increase on those numbers and p.b each lift at nats. My goal will be to try and place in the top 3 in my weight class . 2nd would be like winning lotto.  After that I want to try and build further on my total with the goal of competing for first place at Nationals 2017 so a lot of work to do but I love training so it's going to be an enjoyable ride regardless. I had been contemplating trying to bulk up to the 90s and seeing what added strength I get but the fact that I rarely ever go over 84 kg and usually sit in the mid 83s make it not really worth it. The first step is to get this pec/shoulder/bicep injury cleared so I'll be taking it easy for a bit squatting with ssb and front squats while also benching not so frequently.  Lots of mobility and just trying to get good whole meals in . Goals for this year are a 260 squat, 170 bench and 280 deadlift with the squat and dead probably being the easiest of those to reach. So a 710 total. Not unrealistic but definitely work to be done. Fingers crossed.

Good goals mate!

The possibility of drying out and doing the 75s is there too.  You only weighed 80kg so a 5kg drop wouldn't be too tough with some Epsom salt baths and water load/cut.

710 @ 75 is world class and would give you 488 gloss which would be tough to beat by anyone on the day (I only just hit 500)

Nice. Who are you up against in that weight class who has totalled more than you did at your last comp? Guessing Tom Lee (is he still competing?) but who else?

Yeah Tom Lee is as far as I know the top dog still and working on the theory he also advances I won't be getting close this year unless my squat improves immensely.  Not sure who else there is but I'm sure there's others around.

Yeah that could be an option to. Didn't even think about that . Might be a mission to cut that much but could be worth looking into.

8kg is a lot at 83kg to 74.9kg. You see how hard it is for Tom lee to go 89 to 81.4. 8kg not equal 108 to 100 as 83 to 75. Lighter you are to start with harder to lose. Also older you are harder to cut weight.

Yeah I'd probably be literally a skeleton to lol. I've been 79 a few months ago after a solid couple of weeks in the sun working and felt weak as.

1st day of program today. All high bar work for squats as don't have any pressure on tendon when doing these.

180kg x 6 sets of 4

130kg x 10

140kg x 5 sets of 3 pause reps.

Felt good after the first 2 sets and will alternate high bar with ssb squats for a few weeks.   GHR and AB work this evening as have GHR at home . Didn't bench today as instructed by coach.

Pretty cruisy first week in so far . Did benches up to 122kg without any serious pain so that's a start . Deads today we're deficits at 202.50kg x 5 sets of 4 which felt ok. Also had my first abdominal and intercostals massage which was so good and body is feeling tip top. Have been speaking to a few guys who aren't competing around palmy to try get them to come over and lift in gpc which will be awesome and think that there's going to be a lot of records taken over the next couple years especially in my weight class with the likes of @manlet etc coming into the picture.  Gonna make for some fun comps and real good for powerlifting as a whole in NZ.  Couple of the younger fellas in my gym lifting some solid numbers like 190 or 200 deads and 160 squats at 16 years of age so be good to get these guys in there to.
