Creatine- Pre vs Post Work Out.

Studying up creatine I have found that there are a lot of different opinions on this subject. People saying take it before you work out to increase strength and recovery between sets, and others saying take it straight after you work out because that’s when it works best for recovery and improving strength (apparently does not give you instant strength as there fore useless if you take it before hand). It’s the same with the products some saying take before, others saying take after.

Was wanting to know when you take you’re creatine and is there a special reason for that.

I always used to take it before but if I went on creatine now I'd probably do both. I geuss the theory of taking it pre workout is that it's there, ready to be used straight away I geuss. The advatage of taking post workout is that's when the insulin in your muscles is high, so your muscles will store creatine more readily.

If you're just taking creatine mono, it's pretty damn cheap (even ignoring your discount) so I really can't see the harm in taking it before and after a workout.

Yeah I too always use to take it before working out and always thought that was the only way to take it until I started taking 'EAS phosphagen elite' the other day. Stating that I take 1 straight after I work out. So been studing up on it and right now I am taking a serving before I work out and the other straight after.

phosphogen elite is a good product. ive always taken 30-45 minutes before a workout and directly after for the reason ive also heard about the variations in research so cover all bases this way.

is it those typical extra 1-2 reps you get out of it.

I have always taken creatine before workout. I have never tried it after workout. I personally took creatine because it gave me the 'pump. Is there an advantage for taking after a workout Ice-Man?

1 Research shows the best time to take creatine is immediately after your workout when the metabolic state of skeletal muscle is most receptive to insulin-mediated uptake of creatine.

Taking Creatine before working out Facts.

Large shifts in body fluid during exercise should be avoided at all cost. They could severely compromise exercise performance and even prove hazardous.

Highly glycemic sugars (like those taken with creatine) should be avoided prior to exercise because of the sudden crash in energy levels they cause.

Lastly, creatine needn't be "fresh" to work. Once the muscle stores are full, creatine is stable until degraded. Therefore, the stores don't need to be replenished immediately before exercising and that is why taking creatine before working out will not acutely help you lift any more in that session

But that is just from a couple of researchers, others will say take it before you work out, during you work out, and before and after you work out. None of these really have any real evidence that they are the best way to take it. I think you will only find out what works best for you with experience.

It also depends on what you're creatine has in it. If it is a fancy creatine with other very important ingredients in it then it may be needed to be taken at different times. For instance the EAS Phosphagen Elite I am taking has Beta-Alanine in it which is best taken straight after the gym.

dont know what your trying to say? was that a dig at me?

for me i found it gave me a decent pump for a creatine product, good tasting etc

I was just wondering if you had experienced those results which usually BBs report on. have you felt the weight to be somehow lighter at the end of your set and then managed to crank 1 or 2 more reps.

Thank you very much for that information Ice_Man. I have always heard it from the creatine manufactures to take it before, during and after the workout. I just assumed it was another way these sneaky guys are trying to consume more and purchase more of their product. That was very good information you have posted. Thanks!

Creatine supplementation is used to replenishing creatin stores after hard physical training. It would make sense to take pre and post. Pre giving you that little bit more strenght and recovery time between sets and increasing possible rep range. Taking it post workout helpes replenishing energy stores within the muscle fibres which in theory should help recovery.

I agree with that to but here is what another reseacher said, "Don't supplement to frequently. Supplementing both before and after exercise may be counterproductive because of the inhibition of creatine transporter activity that may still persist from the previous feeding".

I think its safe enougth to do it this way if you're work outs are 1-2 hours long, giving it a chance to be absorbed and then do its thing before taking another serving.

ok got you now mate, compared to monhydrate i found the phosphogen elite(beta-alaine +creatine) worked butter in produceing a few more reps and reduction in lactate forming, hence the few extra reps. this is a product of the beta alaine(sp) as i think it is used as a lactate buffer.

as far as a creatine product i liked it, everyone responds diffrently so best to try a few diffrent ways to use it and find what works best for you. The responce between individuals is largly why there is varied opinons in the research.
