Ditching being weak

I laughed. I wound up getting an important call and I already knew it was going to be borderline dark. Didnt go get a flashlight to finish.

Just put the thing back together. Buddy has offered to host my weights in his garage about 8 mins away. Might do.

Frustrating doing tweaks on sumo form trying to get it right.

Brought the stance in Tues.

Today I straightened the stance a tiny bit. Very frustrating as it loaded the hips well and was much faster, but now the bar is in front a little too much.

Doubles to 275 then back to 240.

Need to ask for help

Got to turn your toes out a bit more by the sounds, this will allow your knees to travel more to the sides and allow the bar to start closer to your body and remain closer throughout the lift.

That's $120 thanks.

That's what I was doing - pointed my toes straighter and helped get speed off the floor.
What I'm trying to do now, is straighten still, but widen the stance a tiny bit to keep the bar closer.

Sat 2/7

Jerks to 180, 192.5

Haven't had a go on a log cause the one down here was broken, but this gave me an idea where my strength is at. Am going to do the FitX Strongman this week which has a max log. Booked flights after doing this.

4/7
50mm Axle (Galvanised) up to a few singles in the 160kg mark.
Also an event in the comp on Sat which I had no idea where I was at. Not a good event without training for me.

Squats to 260 bare knees

(Back on the horse)

Conv deads to 260 beltless and surprisingly fast

Threw on 50 centurion squat suit testing for potential sm comp

Deads to 260*2, 290, 310 -missed during hitch but it was there. Back was tender. I am a rubbish deadlifter

Did a few drop down sets. Will try put belt on the suit over belt as can't get down to bar properly without belt. D'oh.

Need to drop $300 on a dead suit if I do SM competitively next year

Push Press

5x60

3x110

140

160

175

mx187.5x 3 (I nearly got this, but it felt weird, on the 2nd go I realised the bar was quite bent)

160x2 (new bar)

mx190 - fatigued.

Bit disappointed as 175 wasn't hard, and I got close to 187.5 even with the bar being bent.

65mm/2.5" Axle deadlift (event in this weekends comp - coke can diameter)

2x100

150

190

220

230

240

220x2

240

220

Pretty close to maximal, that extra diameter is crazy, I think I could do 280 on a regular axle comfortably)

MG Bench press

to 160, 170

4 Days out from SM contest  - max 2.5" axle dead, log for max, 100kg farmers for max distance (argh), tire flip, inaugural NZ Mas Wrestling champs (as 5th event).

Found out the bar I bent catching the 175kg push press above, was not bent at all prior. Owner is apparently buying some Eleiko's to stop this happening again. @Skeletor - could be worse eh?

Squats: (posting all of this to show what a low volume session looks like!)

10xbar - plus shoulder warm up with 5kg plate swings

4x100 paused

2x160

1x200

1x240

1x270 - add wraps and belt

1x300

3x180 speed

Hacks paused atg

20 reps

Pulldowns

20 reps

Took the win in the Manawatu Strength Challenge and the NZ Mas wrestling champs.

5 events - went well. Pretty comfortable and as I mentioned I needed to pace myself as every event hit the grip and or biceps hard. My fingers were so swollen after that I didn't wear my wedding ring for 3 days. That said, no injuries and I'm pretty happy.

I unexpectedly won the log with my opener and so jumped to 172kg - I don't want to make excuses, but the brand new log was really slippery and that didn't help. So I missed the clean. (I have cleaned 200 easily before, and I'm not that much weaker than that day). I think that weight is definitely there on a regular log.

Deads to a comfortable 280 conventional

Add 50Centurion suit

Let's just say I was happy enough this time and I'm doing the @aucklandstrongmanseries round 2 show on August 27 at Crossfit Ellerslie.

Did a bit of assistance work after.

Hi Pull then Snatch

6xbar

1x60x6

1x90x3

1x110x3

5 goes at 125, I got 3 of them - I was just struggling a little with bar placement as catch was a little forward most times. The last rep I slipped backwards a little due to overcorrecting the problem , dropped the bar on the blocks which shot forward, throwing the bar back into my shins - bruised up nice and good. But not injured- oh well.

Hoping I can pull off a 140ish snatch next month- could easily get under it right now, just hit and miss form wise.

Was meant to squat after - bummer.

Mas Wrestling for 40mins with Carl who is off to Worlds.

Was a fantastic workout, and we did a bunch of timed holds for 20 seconds with one guy pulling and one defending. Outstanding grip workout.

Tore a callous on my 2nd to last pull, and then tore one on the other hand immediately after when we did matches.
