kia ora koutou,

I am writing to find out what are the appropriate foods to eat when body building. I use the gym on the regular but am let down by the foods I eat, it's not that I eat alot of junk. I understand that you need a strict eating reigime for the best results but what I don't understnd is what food to eat exactly like before a workout, after and in between. I feel as though I can't really begin my mission until I get this sorted first soooo advice would be greatly appriciated.

Thank you everyone and god bless.

HI mate

Eating for bodybuilding is not all that hard. It does not always have to be a strict regime although the more good quality calories you consume the more good quality muscle you can build. A relatively high calorie diet is usually required unless you are trying to reduce bodyfat.

In order to keep your body in an anabolic state (state of growth) you should eat every 2-3hours. Each meal doesnt need to be huge but should have a balance of some good complex carbohydrates ( rice, kumara, potatoes) protein and a small amount of essential fats. Carb amount would greatly depend on what you are trying to achieve and other factors such as activities outside of the gym. Protein should be between 20-30g per meal and at about 2g per kg of bodyweight per day. Protein is after all the building block for you muscle.

Adding dietary fibres will help with bodyfat control and veggies keep you healthy so you can keep training.

Its important to realise you use a lot of nutrients when pushing the body in the gym which need replenishing afterwards for the body to keep growing, recover and remain healthy.

Good luck
