Lol, I had that same moment where I realised I may as well not even been using knee wraps after I got shown how to put them on properly.  Oh well, it just means you have heaps more tricks in the bag come comp day

Also be good to get someone else to put your wraps on you on comp day.   No one can crank your wraps up like someone else can.  And tell them not to listen you when you say they are too tight.  Tighter the better :)

I am also half a notch up too.   Old point is too tight and new notch is too loose :'(  Either need to get fatter or skinnier I guess

If you get someone to wrap you up it'll be a lot tighter than you can get yourself and you don't get gassed before even squatting lol.

Although as the wraps get tighter it'll make you feel like you've hit depth sooner than you have as they'll tighten up like a bitch and since you're not used to it you may have a tendency to come up early. This is what cost me my third attempt at ProRaw. Came up easier than my previous squats but cut it a tickle high as I thought I had hit depth but it was just the wraps being tight as f*ck.

Just something to be aware of, sink it further than you think you need to. Go to where the wraps hurt, go a bit further and then nail it up !

Do what you're used to on the day. If you wrap yourself in training, wrap yourself on the day. especially in your first real comp. only my opinion. Unless I find someone at my gym who can wrap my knees next year from Feb onwards each session I'll be wrapping my own knees at Auckland comp and Nationals. Reflecting... I wrapped my own knees at nationals and got 300 squat I had someone wrap at worlds tight as f*ck and I got 305 I had huge bruises behind my legs afterwards felt like I had pulled a muscle. That was only 2 attempts too if I had f wrapped for a third it would have just been too sore... Call me a pussy or whatever but the fact is I'm just not used to it. If you go to a ptc and have someone wrap your knees comp tight each and every heavy session you will be conditioned to it and it'll be great. You want to concentrate on the lift not how much your legs hurt and how you can't feel below your knees.

Or you may have really bad forearms and struggle to reroll and wrap to a sufficient level between attempts.  There's a few of us around.  Rather save my forearms for bench than be a martyr and wrap myself

Definitely don't crank wraps in comp if not used to it at very first comp or get someone new to apply them but going forward try get used to tighter wraps and tee up some sessions with a partner

yup this time around i will do myself because i really dont need a curveball on the day and im relatively confident doing it, but def heaps of room to improve going forward.

permanently in powerlifting gym now,  whole other world compared to commercial gym, motivating as fuark environment, lot of the guys training for the same comp as im doing so we all on the same page,  most of them its their first comp too because relatively new gym and i think the fed is quite new too?

squat

bar x a few

70 x 5

120 x 5

145 3 x 3

175 3 x 3 wraps

all easy and fast, atg

bench press

bar x lots

60 x 5

80 x 3

95 6 x 2

db fly

5kg 3 x 10 (these remind me of sheiko, its like a stretch more than a weighted exercise)

hung round for a bit talked shit with guys at gym, learning lots of just general kind of stuff i didnt know before PL wise, also watched some strongman training, pretty badass

What's the federation?  Sounds like you've moved to the right place.

APL

i will do gpc next year but atm i dont care at all what fed i lift in just care about the rules and the dates. only rules that affect me is gpc use monolift and APL you have to walk squats out. other rules like suicide grip is allowed on bench in APL (i dont do that anyway) and there is a raw class (no knee wraps) and raw classic (knee wraps)

next year will do gpc comps

yeah its awesome, stoked. helps a lot to have people giving pointers after every set, yelling when reps are slow etc lol

rest today and yesterday, test deadlift tomorrow.

decided to do WRPF deadlift competition on 13th of dec, so a week after 3 lift comp. 3 lift is still priority, but will be cool to have one more chance this year to squeeze a few more kg pb in comp atmosphere, without the fatigue of squat/bench first i should be able to pull a big one

disappointing deadlift test!

everything felt heavy and shit today, just felt weak in general. for scale, 200 today felt harder than the 230 i did on same bar in same gym 2 weeks ago (and today id eaten properly and had a good sleep etc)

nearly had a rage and walked out but finished what i needed to do some how, but yeah very weak today and i have no idea why

deadlift

70 x 5

120 x 5

170 x 5

200 x 2 (worried here, it was hard)

220 x 1

230 x 1

245 x 0 didnt budge, gave it a couple attempts

was in a bad mood at this point gutted as. the way 230 felt 2 weeks ago 250+ should have been no problem.. at this point i decided im not doing competition (being a baby) then did:

242.5 x 1 pb. shitty grind at this point i decided i will do competition again lol but still not happy

210 4 x 1 hard !

sumo sldl

80 3 x 8

so i dunno what happened today, had everything perfect and just was weak. no idea why. pissed off

dont worry bro. These things happen. If it makes you feel any better... Last Wednesday I pulled 4 singles at 280kg really well (my last video on IG was my 4th single), last night I couldn't even get 300kg off the floor and took two attempts at it. Does it matter? No. I'm in my offseason so I got a reason, but some days it's just not your day. I was thinking of doing the push pull, last night put that idea to rest lol. I had a few days like this in my programmes leading into comps this year. But it doesn't matter, it's what you lift on the day. So put it behind you and focus on the next day. Rotorua Comp in March ten days out I couldn't pull 300 past my knees, 10 days later at comp I pulled 287.5/307.5/320 - 2 fkn ez. Keep going man.

+1 on RTs point bro.

You'll nail it come the day.

And let's be honest this is only the beginning of your powerlifting career, you'll look back on this in a couple years and be glad you didn't give up on the comp

sweeeet chur this has got me relieved.tbh would never pull out lol just get pissed off at the time.

shot tom good points, im quite inconsistent day to day/week to week strength wise so hopefully deloading etc does me good.

also jackson yeah lol now know how you felt when you had shit tests, all good!

amped, 9 days to go

10kg PB on a day when I don't ever expect you to get a true max.

Poor Maccaz has gotten so used to making PB's every 5 minute that today is seen as disappointing

yeah fair call, my bad.

just wasnt sure how this kind of thing works eg didnt know if i "should" have been particularly strong/weak today  programming wise but all good!
