Party pills are to be banned, Associate Health Minister Jim Anderton has announced.

BZP and related party pills, also known as herbal highs, will be classified as a Class C1 drug.

This will stop the legal manufacture and sale of these products.

But Mr Anderton said there would be a six-month amnesty for possession of less than five grams of the drug for personal use from the date legislation providing for the ban came into effect.

Mr Anderton said he hoped that bill would be passed into law by the end of this year

Unbelieveable - alcohol is constantly in the news for driving related deaths, health issues, and addictive qualities and yet they ban BZP - just because some people don't follow instructions and drink or take other drugs with it. Great just another freedom and choice that New Zealanders have lost.

Date Rape drug or Growth Hormone booster...you be the judge.

or u can drop a few mls in yr own mouth b4 u go out to get a mean buzz!

Besides, BZP bugs your eyes out, makes you feel like poos for three days afterwards, and is generally dirty. It should be banned.

dont take it then.

I have no idea what the attraction is, what does this stuff actualy do ? I have never been interested in trying it, I have heard of people using it for weight loss but what else happens ?

the attraction is its gets u amped so u can party all night! also from a bodybuilders point of veiw these drugs are good to use when u are going out because u dont want to drink alcohol (empty calories) when u are bodybuilding, so u take these substances to have a good time rather than drinking to have a good time.

and if u can have an awesome time without anything, then good for u and even better!!!

It can induce serious episodes of projectile vomiting too. Very important to get the dose right, otherwise one may find themselves trying to keep a mouthful of technicolour yawn in while sprinting to the toilets at the loaded hog ten years ago.

Or at least that's how i'm told it happens..... :pfft:

wont really impact that much i dont think, people just dont like having the "right" to something removed, Alcahol could never be viewed in such a manner as lets face it...its pretty much a cornerstone of society..wouldnt be a single politician or lawmaker goes a day without some form of exposure to it.

those that want an "alternative" but dont want to go the illegal route will buy the BZP free variants that the people making milllions from this industry are already developing.

those who dont care about legality...well lets be honest..party pills are just cheaper, as soon as they are black market, the cost goes up and they will go back to more "hardcore" substances.

Ghb- i think another common effect is just falling asleep upright?

when BZPs banned i am sure NZ will be flooded with ecstasty imports. I bet crims are allready anticipating the rise in ecsatasy demand for later this year.. Not to mention prices are going to go up from our allready high eckie prices. ..but ahh not that it will effect me my party days and all nighters are numbered to much temptation for comfort food on a come down. Enjoying training to much for that $hit these days no fun being a zombie at the gym!

your right but i'd say a general increase in all recreational drugs... we'll be going back to the pre bzp days when there was regular articles about people collapsing in clubs etc from G, E etc does anyone remeber when the actually sold G legally? as one4b and that guy died from it... imangine if the chemical kids of today had access to that over the counter!
