TLAF prep

Also not peaking too early is something to take away, this pic is from 3 weeks out.. Same protocol as show day.. Second day after my refeed and I was always at my best on the 3rd day.,

Oh and real talk.. Next prep I won't need to have refeed days as I won't be dieting as long therefor won't need to hold condition. I still wanna be ready early but not like last time.

I think the main point of manipulating carbs etc at the end is to help get water out from under the skin giving the thinner skin look. Is it worth a potential 5% gain for a possible 15% loss of condition? I'd say no not really. The key is.. would the extra 5% make a difference to the placing. That's why guys take the risk. You live and learn.

Agree re risk to reward ratio. Sometimes better to go a bit more depleted than risk smoothing out.

Disagree re carbs tho. My view is carbs to fill muscles while still taking on fluids, then dehydration protocol to lose subcutaneous fluid. Not a lot of carb uptake at this point but I guess you could view the carbs taken on here as aiding drying out?? I don't really see it that way at look at the two processes as achieving different things.

Whenever people tell me about their awesome carb up I say jump on the scales. Net gain from carb up and drying out usually equals zero :) from my experience with people anyway. I changed my ideas about it when I was reading an interview with flex wheeler talking about loading and drying out when he was working with Chad Nicholls. He said.. I never understood why I was loading up as much as 20 pounds to dry out back to where I started.

I agree that sometimes better to err on the side of caution. I'd say next time Jearl just diets til his glutes are as striated as his triceps and then he doesn't have to worry about it anymore :)

I wasn't at the show but based on pictures on FB of you and Shaun, I was thinking it was going to be a really close battle. I think he may have got you on conditioning on the day based on what my friends that were at the show told me.

Thomas Shaw is a freak though!

I'd have to disagree with saying there was a poor decision taken in the carb up process. I have a hand in this aspect because there was plenty of discussion with me in relation to what Jordan was going to do. We dry ran the process 3 or 4 times leading in to the comp and it worked out every time. Was full as hell the day after eating then basically just a return to his normal intake and just watch the water run off him so that by the 3rd day he was still full but dry. On the morning of the comp he was in. His glutes, hams and lower back were tighter and his upper body was full because Jearl has a tendency to really flatten our through his chest and back. If there was wrong advices then I gave them so I'll put my hand up hand for that but from my perspective he was better than he's ever been and the lead up allowed dry runs which worked exactly as planned every time. I see in pics that he faded in condition from what he sent me pics of when he woke up and what he took to stage (still the best package he's taken mind you) and I have some ideas as to why that loss of condition happened and how to amend it for next time.

End of the day for my money that's the best Jearl to date onstage and no gear. Not a bad effort. Pretty sure the winner of the juniors smoked all but one of the open class winners :)

This happened to me at my 1st comp in Hamilton 3 years ago. It's a real bugger!
