Soundsgood Lifting heavy sh*t

Was awesome to watch Joe go 880 @ 131kg

He now has the biggest raw total in NZ so i need to up my game and hit that 900 real soon

Still in cruise/cut mode. Higher rep ranges. I'm trying to sort out the niggles and set a good base before I embark on an all out prep.

A good base is

injury free

Good mobility

Healthy internals

Positive mindset

So I'm incorporating mobility exercises, stretching, cardio - mainly explosive stuff like sled, prowler, tyres etc and formulating a plan of attack so everything is mapped out for me

I'm going to bite the bullet and change to sumo deadlifts. I've never given it a good crack and it's my lagging lift so I've got nothing to lose

Here's a couple of videos from this week anyway

Monday squatted 3 top sets at 260kg. First set felt real hard only got 3 reps. 2nd and 3rd got 5 reps

Benching 180kg for 3 sets of 8

Bodyweight is around 118kg and cut is going well.

Haha nah Ive only really tried it a couple of times.

Pulled 260 x 2 and it felt awkward as f*ck.  Was too close to a comp so I went back to conventional.

Im really hoping it will click for me as I have short arm length and strong quads.

Realistically hoping it will get me up to 320+ by the end of the year

First session tonight so I'll post up a video in the form thread for you guys to critique

First at with Sumo tonight. Was a bit awkward as my grip was right on the shiny bits of the bar with no grip and I had no chalk so as I don't have a grip issue and wasn't going heavy I just used lifting straps.

Worked up to 2 sets of 240 x 3

Then dropped back to a couple of sets of 10-12 @ 180kg

I obviously need to sit back further, head up and push thru feet better but all in all not unhappy with how the session went.

Also did some barbell upright rows/deadlift things I saw ed Coan do in his sumo tutorial video. It was pretty epic on my upper back. Think I'll start encorporating them more.

Rest of workout full ROM Chins, regular rows, and skipped the conventional deficits as I was feeling pretty green by the end and didn't feel like spewing today lol.

Having such powerful leg strength it suprises me you aren't already a sumo deadlifter. Whens the goal to reach your 900?

Yeah I've always been meaning to give it a crack but the investment in time has never lined up with comps always around the corner.

I'm setting a target for 900 minimum at proraw in March 2016 at the Arnold Classic Australia. Hopefully I can cut to 110s but that part is not as important

Yeah good point Jono.  No point jumping straight into the heavies and injuring yourself.

I find the pressure on your body is in quite different areas compared to Conventional.  Upper back and shoulders were aching after it.

If I don't go heavy I can possibly train them twice a week too so I can become proficient faster.

Out of interest can you pull more sumo than you used to conventional Jono?  You were pulling around 300ish raw conventional when you competed right?

Thanks guys. The briefs weren't tight but gave me a little bit of confidence out of the hole.
I haven't tried a squat suit yet but I assume it will be reasonably hard to get into if it fits properly.  I have suit slips that should make it not too bad.  The briefs are real tight around the quads but I can pull it up with the correct technique.
I'm reasonably confident of heading towards 400/280/320.

1000 total is the goal Skeletor :)

Briefs are like the bottom half of the squat suit.

So Ideally it still gives you a bit of pop out of the hole but without the straps its not going to give you much as you come up.

Squat suits give you more assistance.

Guys wear briefs underneath their squat suits in Multiply to double up the assistance and squat insane numbers.

People say lots of BS about equipped lifting but they fail to understand its basically a different sport to raw lifting.  You can't compare the numbers, theres no basic calculation you can throw at the numbers to compare the two.  Its like Rugby league and Rugby union.

IE if I total 800 raw I should get a 20% carryover in gear and total 960 equipped etc.  It doesnt work like that.  Im already finding Im having to change the way I lift, the mechanics of the lift are different and require a different mindset.  There are lots of parts of the lift where its all you and some where instead of focusing of moving the barbell you are focusing on following the groove of the suit (harder than it sounds as it will generally try to force you out of position).

Why do I even want to lift equipped?  Because it means I can lift even heavier shit and it protects parts of my body that are getting hammered every week and causing me grief outside of the gym.
