Steve Orton busted for rec drug imports

Unfortunate for him, he's a good young guy with huge potential. Just a shame he was so naive and got caught up with people giving him shitty advice.

Personally I hope he gets discharge without conviction as he has a case for a competitive future that requires international travel. Shit if the so-called 'maori prince' can get discharged for burglaries & drink driving you'd hope Steve gets consideration.

Other than that my only words of wisdom are for other bodybuilders to look at history and make wise choices - Steve's probably about the tenth NZ bodybuilder I can think of to make a similar choice where recreational drugs are potentially leading to jail time. Depending on another case thats ongoing at present that number could easily be 20 in a few months, but hopefully not given the lack of clarity around so called synthetics status in law. Big learning point either way tho...be sensible kiddies, easy money is usually easy for a reason! :)

Discharge without conviction can gtfo.

He knew the risk to his future travel when he did the crime and weighed up whether it was worth it or not so obviously thought it was worth the risk at the time.

yeah possibly, assuming he knew what was being sent......and thats a big assumption.

But you are right, people need to consider risk vs reward with anything in life and weigh that up.

my assumption would be he knew exactly what was being sent and that his involvement extended beyond just receiving a package and leaving it on his doorstep. that sounds like a bs cover story.

Yup not way you would risk that much for $500 a delivery, must have been involved with pressing the pills somehow.

Orton joins a growing list of body builders who have been caught importing illegal drugs.

The most notable is Justin Rys, known as Mr Big, who was jailed in 2006 for importing fantasy from eastern Europe with a street value of up to $2.1 million.

Rys, the former Mr Oceania, has openly admitted using illegal performance-enhancing and recreational drugs.

He has a damaged heart and his health is deteriorating after years of steroid abuse.

Big Kiwi still making the news!  Stay natty if you don't want bad health

I would think names will have to be named for any chance of discharge without conviction. So I wonder  who was to be the receiver of this titanium dioxide lol probably Mr I. Dunno. Cooperation with police would have to be a prerequisite for discharge without conviction for something like this.... So we will just discharge him because he a champion bber and forget about the whole thing... Lol if only it worked like that. However, stranger and more unjust things than this have happened before so all the best to him.

doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out whose involved. But Oh well weather he gets off or charged I couldn't care less. Hope he carries on bodybuilding tho.

I can recall talking to Steve Ortan last year at the Pans and now this thought shit hope that Steve Orton turns his life around.

He should have listened to you General Ratzilla , you clearly knew what will happen to the future, I thought of something just now "Ratzilla Vs "Ortan" : just bring it on" do you also like it?

I've heard the old "parcel with some-one elses name on it" trick suggested quite often, but it never sounded like a very good defense to me. I guess we'll find out just how much protection it really does offer.

realistically what would the sentence be for this kind of thing?

Well, it was a pretty sizable order, wasn't it? You couldn't claim it was for personal use.

Whatever the sentence, it's sad that Steve got caught up in this. :-(

From my knowladge, which is minimal, but if you take possession of a package no matter who's names on it then your accepting you know what the contents are.

the parcel with someone elses name on it is mostly so your name doesnt end up in some sort of medsafe/customs/police database if one exists and your parcel is seized.

also if you live with several other people and all that the cops have as evidence is a parcel with illegal drugs under a fake name it would make it hard for them to pin it on a specific person who lives at that address, wheras if you use your real name youre immediately the prime suspect.

700 X $140 = $98.000..... Genuine MDMA is only $60 a gram in Europe...

Where the hell do customs get their prices from..??
