If i was tryna diet fast id swim in coldish water (e.g sea) for 3 hours every day. used to go spearfishing round dunedin. in water 3-4 hours, 2/3mm wetsuit and be hungry as f*ck afterwards (winter especially). coz use lots of energy keeping body and surrounding water warm. dont wear wetsuit and even more drastic.
in conclusion, harden up. you sound like a pussy whining about auckland temperatures. do some cardio to warm up or wear more clothes or some shit and stop complaining

I am doing the work and getting the results don't worry about that!

Now why don't you put some of your words into action and cut up for a body building show, oh but thats right you would have to actually measure up to your own comments then.

Come on be a man and do it, stop telling us competitors how to do it and show us!

Well back in my day when did a few diets and got cold id just crank heater in my car and do a workout inside there... Like recline seat do sit ups, turn key off and turn steering wheel with no power steering, shoulder press the vinyl sag in my roof (I had a Mercedes, they are Notorius for this) (yes, I said Mercedes), put my seat back up press floor hard so back pushed against seat and repeat (leg press), hands on seat and push bum off seat so there's the dips. Hands on back seat and feet on dash board... Boom! Chest press!

This would be amusing to see the Mercedes bouncing around with steamed up windows as it was so warm. I think I will keep to training in the gym thanks.

But instead of back in the day how about making it now, yes you too could line up for a competition and show the rest of us how its done!

nah im fine not competing in bodybuilding. if i was gonna compete in something id chose something that was actually cool or enjoyable i.e not bodybuilding. plus the shows arent in summer so its pretty much a waste of time cutting just to hop on stage for a few minutes and possibly get a plastic trophy. plus id have to do physique with mostly faggots, since havent been training legs.

im planning on doing a bit of a cut for summer though. will keep you guys updated with progress pics, vid clips, anecdotes/real life stories etc etc and of course ill keep contributing to this forum in general in a manner consistent with how i have since i joined.

Ahhhhh so its a case of keyboard warrior.

Competing is not about the trophy it is about seeing what you have worked so hard to build.

It is easy to look on and feedback but it is totally another storey when you are on this side of the fence. Even just leaning up for summer does not compare to the focus required to compete.

Guess it puts it all in perspective how easy it is for you to poke shit at us and think its fair but now perhaps we see that you are not in a position to either judge us or give us a hard time.

Yeah might do the Pans lol.

No thanks id rather compete in a powerlifting competition or where the results are indicative of what you did not of someone's corrupt opinion. I just think in the last couple of years especially it's taken a turn that I don't really like (not to say it's not good, I just don't like it) I mean the number of classes... Especially the bikini and the fitness model type stuff or as it should be known the board shorts class. That's not bodybuilding IMO. In the open mean physique clas there is no one to compete against anyway... You win your class automatically most of the time because you're the only one in it then the only competition is the overalls. Why would anyone spend the money time and effort it takes to get in shape over a 10-15 weeks period for that. You know, you have people dropping out of the male bodybuilding class because they don't wanna train legs and they want to be a pro in this board short class... And for what. What they gonna do with pro card. Soon there will be no one competing cause everyone will be pro and can't compete lol. But that's another debate. It's a joke. Too many classes now.

So nah don't wanna compete in bodybuilding again. I just like training for 60-90 mins a day and making progress during that time and then I like forgetting about it and getting on with my life. You gotta be obsessed to compete on bodybuilding and that gets abit draining after a while for myself.

Why don't you do a powerlifting comp?

Ultimately you compete in body building for yourself and no one else.

It is a sport that is both physically and mentally demanding possibly like no other sport, you train like a demon and eat like a sparrow. Having said all that it is possibly the most rewarding thing I have ever done to fly in the face of what is almost impossible and achieve what body builders achieve.

Your comments about the judges and corruption are the same as have been touted for the last twenty years and yet people still chose to participate and always will.

WHY! Because this sport is and should be done for yourself not the commerial rewards or the public adoration.

The additional categories are confusing, the sport is evoving and I can appreciate that the new categories are giving people (who previously lacked the ability) to compete at some level. I applaud this even though as a purist bodybuilder I also see the sport being diluted.

At the end of the day the sport needs strong people competing who are prepared to stand up and say what needs to be said and not walk away and say its too hard, or too judgmental.

Personally I do not agree that bodybuilding should be obsessive and work very hard to maintain a balance in my life (hence why I am away for a week in Taupo next week).

Sport is what you make of it, enjoy it or leave it alone.:-)

I agree with Realtalk, IMO the effort you put into bodybuilding is also pointless so much obsessing about anything and everything (training, food, meal times, sleep, activites through the day which you can't do anyway as you feel like shit etc.)

The reward for the effort is minimal, and it controls your life way to much. I don't plan on competing ever again for this reason. Was a little enjoyable the first show but became way to much of a commitment and affected my social life.

Powerlifting is much more enjoyable, positive and encouaging envoriment (even for weak phaggots like me) and progress is easy to quantify.

Bodybuilding is not a sport it is a beauty padgett.

Correct me if I am wrong but isn't each one of us responsible for how much time and effort we contribute to a sport.

IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE OBSESSIVE if you know what you are doing and making good common sense decisions. Sure competing does take extra time and effort but this should only be for 3 or 4 months of the year, the rest of the year is just good clean eating and training.

Of course those who cannot or do not want to compete will say it is pointless, because it is just so damn easy to walk away from that way.

Anyway getting back to the point here, if it is so pointless why do so many of you spend so much time giving Gymrat more grief than he needs, and for that matter putting feedback on threads that add no real value.

This behaviour befits only those who are hiding their jealousy of those who make the commitment and achieve!

I didn't walk away because it was too hard or judgmental. I just did a few comps, experienced what it was about and felt satisfied with that. I think you'll find most people follow that path, only a fraction will compete consistently long term, I'm not gonna get into a debate about whose hobby is the hardest or more challenging. Yes I agree that bodybuilding takes a lot of dedication I'm not denying that. I just have no interest in doing that ever again. If you do then thats great.

Ultimately the well adjusted individuals in bodybuilding usually end up giving it away. While I would tend to agree with you that bodybuilding should be done for yourself, the reality is that the vast majority of competitors just can't wait to get themselves an athlete page, buy 20,000 likes, open a supplement dairy, start their own clothing line and amass an army of nutt-hugging betas to circle jerk with.

Bodybuilding can be a narcissistic unhealthy sport that to some professionals would constitute serious mental illness. To actually get anything back from it you have to sacrifice so much; health, social life, a normal job, money, time, effort as well as your body. Think about it, a normal healthy lean 80 something kilo guy goes about his day to day business, in a much more efficient and helthy manner than a 120kg bloated mess who has to eat every 5 seconds. There are guys sacrificing so much and for what? a little piece of paper and a meaningless title of IFBB PRO, that holds no relevance in the real world.

Don't get me wrong I really like bodybuilding, I think it's cool as f*ck. I love the research and science behind maximising muscle growth and burning fat. I find it intrigueing and I love putting it into practice. I enjoy helping others achieve what they want in terms of their physique and working on my own. Hell you might even find me on stage at some point. But for me the benefits of seriously competitive bodybuilding do not outweigh the costs and I struggle to do things by halfs.

It can also be seriously harmful to the kind of narcissistic and/or insecure personalities it attracts. You have to be very level headed to take on the challenge, get out of it what you want whether it be to win akl champs or be mr olympia and leave it at that. There are a few guys in NZ who I believe hold this mindset, some who are pros. Really good guys that are very level headed and just love doing what they do, they also have amazing physiques. But for every one of them there are a hundred fuckwits with athlete pages and "sponsors", whose own self worth is so inextricably linked with their physique and other peoples opinions of them that they seek validation through a plastic trophy, some free protein and the words IFBB PRO after their name on facebook.

Don't take this the wrong way and I don't mean to offend, a lot of competitors on here actually seem pretty normal people, just my take on a sport that sucks so many in, chews them up and spits them out an unhealthy, poor, maladjusted mess.

Watch the doco on Shane McConkey (called 'McConkey') if you havent already seen it. should be on piratebay or something. He did fucking cool shit, way better than taking drugs and starving yourself for a few bodybuilding shows and a plastic trophy.

Rebel01 im not scared to compete i just dont want to because i can see what ive acheved in terms of training from my lifts and from what my body looks like on any given day because im not a chobber hiding my muscles under a thick layer of fat and mine are actually visable all the time.

I just train coz i enjoy it mostly. Its kinda like how i go swimming in summer at beaches and rivers and enjoy it, yet i dont do it competitively in a pool because to me thats fucking gay. exactly the same thing.

you seem angry about something. your husband not been giving you his aging d?

So in essence, Rebel is saying she is better than everyone because she is competing?

Not at all, what I am saying is that I am frustrated with comments on threads that are irrelevant and completely unhelpful to the thread. I thought this forum was hear to support sports people not to make fun of them and generally provide amusement to certain members who are not prepared to put themselves up there.

I also think the pans is also a fitting arena for this duel but how do we pay when the bank account isnt the same because someone went to pay and they said the account is closed so is the pans really the pans or is the pans a myth.

It goes a little beyond a "bit of piss taking" though.   I'm pretty certain it's what drives many away from what could be a great learning tool.

And, so take you own advice - just laugh it off ......bro.
