It was pretty impressive/humbling

Realtalk smoked the Conans wheel on day 1 for his weight bracket.

There were ambos out the back during the hrecules hold ( Dale Shepherd ? ) anyone know, see what happened.

Amazing the different forms everbody used. Realtalk deadlifting 260 looked like me at 160, then the big boys making 300 look easy.

Must be a hell taxing weekend on the body, I can see why on day two a few were down on their pb's,or playing the numbers games

Disappointing that what happened backstage is now the main talking point of the show.

Day 1 arguably had some of the best performances seen in NZ outside of the official NZSM contest. And we all paid for it on day 2, ha.

Placings: Colm Woulfe 72pts

Jono Macfarlane 71pts

Reuben de Jong 69

Panapa Sadaraka

Rudolph Sadaraka

Tod Foster

Not sure after that.

Agreed!

Man there was some insane lifting Day 1 with records going left, right & centre!

Wookie smoked 165kg on the log lift, and called for more - unfortunately as Wookies tend to do he'd managed to break the steel log on his 165 NZ record!!! 180kg is coming in the next few years here!!

Reuben de Jong blitzed 5+ on the Conan's wheel to set a new HW record, with Tod hitting about 4ish for the U105 record. After doing 2.75 myself I can tell you this is f#@ken impressive!

Reuben went back to back hitting 95kg on the Inch Dumbell to set his second record of the day. Dale broke the U105 with 84 or 85.

Partial Deadlift saw Alex Orwin pull 420ish at U90 for a NZ record.

Day two people were suffering but some huge performances, the twin towers of Rudolph & Panapa pulled out some great lifting on log for reps, as did everyone on the stones. Afa surprised himself and got 4 out of 5 stones comfortably before hitting the 155 versus gravity!

Zahid has gotta get a mention for some insand lb for lb lifting at 68kg! Hearty effort both days.

An awesome spectacle for the crowd, credit to Matt Rossiter, Richard O'Brien & Nigel for running the show.

Kudos all.

What was the story with Reuben's deadlift not being allowed by the official? I thought you are allowed to hitch the bar?

Yeah most strongman comps allow hitching, but Nigel called it as no lift. I think the decision was it was a powerlifting deadlift with those rules applying?

Basically the rules meeting requested that the deadlift may be hitched a bit, but no 'bouncing' of the bar allowed to help the hitch.

Was there both days to watch and support my good friend Reuben compete. Nates description of the comp pretty much sums it up, btw way nate I was impressed with your level of competitivness considering you have only just gotten back into strongman and were one of the lighter competitors there.

Yes Reuben was a bit perplexed with why his DL wasnt passed when I spoke with him about it, but hes so layed back he takes it all in his stride. The SM was definately the most enjoyable event to watch at the expo by a longshot.

I found it pretty funny when Reuben was holding the deadlift locked out and official said no lift... Reuben was straining hard and says "what do you mean no lift!?" Could hardly talk... Haha good shit to watch!
