No one should have to spell this out for you. There is more than enough information on the Internet for you to understand how carbs and calories work. I can't believe you know how to post on this forum and yet cannot do a simple Google search.

Come on, guys. In the time you took to tear Goldie a new arsehole, you could have just answered his question. Yes, Google has the answer to everything, but if everyone gets pointed away from this site, what's the purpose of this forum?

We actually have a couple of articles for gym newbies on this site already, Goldie. Check out http://www.gymnation.co.nz/newbies - it needs a bit of a tidy-up, but it might be just the sort of info you're looking for.

Personally, because my day job is pretty sedentary, I try to time my carbs around my workouts. Most of my carbs come after my workout, when they help replenish energy stores and send protein into the muscle. That link will explain the process more. Feel free to come back and ask more questions if you have them.

If you want to lose fat just eat stuff that tastes plain.

lots of veges (except the ones that taste nice or fill you up eg, potatoes, kumara etc)

Moderate amount of meat (execpt the ones that taste nice or fill you up eg pork, lamb chops etc, pretty much just chicken breast and lean steak)

Small amount of complex carbs (brown rice, wholemeal bread etc)

No sugar (this includes fruit, sugar drinks and any thing sweet)

stick to it and you will lose fat.

To eat clean does not equal plain. Check some recipes in nutrition section. Get creative with your food. Try keep macro protein heavy, moderate carbs and light on fats.Something like 50-40-10.

So you're a butcher then?  :P

On a 2,000 calorie diet you're talking about 250g protein and 22g fats.  I've mucked around with some lunatic diets and am not sure that this would even be possible.

Further, there is no particular benefit to eating quantities of protein so far in excess of what the body requires.  Unless you're coming at this from a satiety stand point in which case look into causes and mechanisms of satiety.  Fats at such a low level is bound to cause health issues - you'll be into clinical deficiencies reasonably quickly I suspect and your endocrine system will experience serious prison-style love.

I can't even think of a medical condition where these macro ratios would be a good idea.

Yeah having fats that low and protein that high really isn't a great idea. General rule of thumb (for men anyway): fat in grams/day = bodyweight in kilos, protein in grams/day = 2*bodyweight in kilos, get the rest of your calories in carbs.

For example, an 85kg person wanting to get 3200kcal/day should eat 170g/440g/85g p/c/f.

Note that this is only a starting point, and it is worth shifting those macros around to see their effects on things such as satiety, performance, weight loss/gain, and general well being and health. Everyone responds differently to different inputs; my current macros are ~145/550/80 p/c/f because I do well on high carbs.
