Hi everyone,

I want to improve my diet so it can help with my fitness for sports. Can someone please explain what Carbs are? Correct me if I'm wrong but I heard that it's fuel for the body and the remaining fuel you don't use turns into fat. Also if it's fuel for the body and you do your workouts and use that fuel. Where do you get fuel to go about with your daily activities. Thanks

Goldie

Go on youtube, and look up 3DMJ pyramid. There's a 6 part series. Watch it, and learn. It'll take time but it'll be extremely valuable to you.

Hi Goldie,

Carbohydrates are broken down into three main groups, stach (complex carbs), sugar (simple carbs) and fibre.

Yes Carbohydrates can be broken down to glucose which is the fuel your body runs on. Your body stores this energy as glycogen in your muscles (there is extra reserves in your liver). It is unlikely that you will deplete all of your glycogen stores during your workout.

It is important that you have a small amount of complex carbohydrates during your day to replenish these glycogen stores and to sustain your daily activities especially if you have a physical job.

These needs can also be met buy eating proteins or fats, however these are not optimal for physical preformance.

Hope this helps.
