For those who care or follow my journal I thought I will do a few entries tommorow just logging what I do during the day and how I prepare from start to finish its not going to be a big comp so won't be fully focused all day.

As far as training goes Just been chilling last couple days stretching, rolling, tryna get bit more mobile hoping the elbow will be sweet tommorow I will weigh in tommorow morning expecting to weigh 107.??

Plan for tommorow is

Squat 250-270-(275-285)

Bench 170-185-(190-197.5)

Deadlift 280-295-(300-320)

1st and 2nd attempts are locked in 3rd attempts will be somewhere between those numbers depending how my second attempts all feel. Anything more than 280/190/310 I would be very very pleased. Hopefully I feel good tommorow.

Thanks guys and sorry I didn't uodate during the day like I had said I would. There was only 11 lifters which meant wasn't a lot of down time compared to if there was a couple of flights meaning I was busy the entire day.

I weighed in at 108.5kg, thie was withoit shoes on but had long pants and a jacket on I had a big breakfast. I wasnt concerned about body weight this comp as long as was u110kg which I knew I would be.

Squat:

My planned opener was 250, I changed this to 257.5kg. I wanted 270 for my 2nd attempt and just wasn't feeling comfortable with a 20kg jump. I warmed up to a couple of doubles at 230kg. My third attempt I selected 280kg which was comfortable but a 7.5kg pb on my last comp squat. I really feel that performing well in the squat sets you up to succeed in the rest of the competition. Squat has nothing to do with bench press but I believe hitting your squat attempts gives you confidence and positive momentum moving forward. This is why I'm

Happy to sacfrice a few kg in my squats to make sure I get themleading to a bigger total overall. Rather that taking an unnessercery risk for a small gain. Not to mention failing a heavy squat is a complete waste of energy. That's just my philosophy on that, squat for me is by the the most nerve racking lift at comp. Below is my 280kg squat.

Bench:

During the squats my elbows hurt, especially on the 280. Afterwards this got worse. I had planned to open my bench press on 175kg I changed this after my squats down to 160kg because of elbow pain and I miscalculated my warm up times I was rushed and warmed up to singles at 140kg. 160 was ok too light tbh. For my second attempt I jumped to 182.5kg this attempt hurt on the decent but flew up. 3rd attempt 190kg this was the hardest lift of the day for me felt soooo slow I just ground it out and got it, was highlight of the day for me getting this lift. Below is my 190kg bench

Deadlift:

Was warming up and just felt strong, everything up to 260 felt like a speed rep. As soon as I finished warming up I knew it was going to be a good deadlift. I originally entered opener at 280 I changed this to 287.5kg. This one was quick. After 287.5 I decided I wanted to PB (315+) this wasn't ideal as it meant I would have to make big jumps in weight. Anyway I thought f*ck it and jumped 20kg to 307.5kg this was another speed rep. 3rd attempt I selected 317.5kg I walked round the warm up area and went back to the table and changed it to 320kg. I looked at it as 2.5kg more than what I was going to choose rather than looking at it as a 12.5kg jump from

307.5. Anyway I got the 320kg with ease.

Below is video of the 320kg deadlift

So great day of lifting for me with limted optimal prep, I got 9/9 lifts and a 790kg total which is a 17.5kg pb on my previous comp total in October. Very happy. Once again thanks to Jono M (wookie) for my programming. And to GPC NZ everyone who helped out and make the comp possible. One thing I will say is that everyone wants comps in their areas and seems disappointed when the comps continuously stay in the main centres. Comps out of main centres and away from the HQ (where everyone who founded it are based) can only be made possible if people support them by participating and competing. The fact is if comps run at a loss then they just aren't going to continue. Verbally committing and then pulling out isn't cool. Well done to everyone who competed.

Awesome lifting yesterday Tom. Especially given the limited prep time and injuries carried.

I've never seen someone moan so much on their bench descent then Pop it back up with ease lol. You did well to PB bench bro!

You are a pleasure to ref, there's never any question with your lifts because technically you're close to perfect on all 3 lifts.

As I said yesterday 790 is a huge raw total. It would be one of the top 10 raw totals achieved by anyone over the last 5 years or so over all the Feds.

On your other note it was disappointing to see no shows. We tend to have huge comps in the main centres and its frustrating when we get a lot of interest in the smaller towns but then people pull out at the last minute. We bring down all our equipment and put on good comps. Everyone who entered has told me they had a fantastic day so take the plunge a do it everyone! There is nothing quite like the electric environment of competition.

Thanks guys. I'm not sure how much more I could have gotten on that deadlift maybe another 5kg maybe more I didn't take the 4th attempt which I could have.

So a 4th attempt you are allowed to take if you pass all 3 of your attempts. The 4th attempt must then be higher than the nz record. It is purely a record attempt and 4th attempt numbers don't count towards your total. 4th attempts can go up on 1kg increments instead of the usual 2.5jg increments in weight. (someone correct any of that info that is incorrect please)

So I didn't need to take a 4th attempt I broke the record on my 3rd and I was happy with the day, a 4th attempt I coukd have got injuried and I didn't want to fail. I will go over 330kg at nationals in June. My squat is where I can add most to my total though really going to push hard to get that up to min of 300 by June 6th. That is main focus deadlift will follow.

Training this week will be light bodybuikding type stuff no compound movements, Friday I will start back properly.

Not gonna quote u all individually. But thanks everyone who commented for taking an interest in my training and supporting me.

Was meant to have a belt last week from Harris but u dunno if it was sent or not. If it was it hasn't showed up and if it wasn't then that would explain the long time I have been waiting. Apparently $50aud in postage costs doesn't get you a tracking number according to him. I assumed it would so when I messaged him asking for the tracking bevause it hadn't shown up he said no tracking. So I dunno.

I wouldn't have worn the belt anyway though cause no time getting used yo it and breaking in. Will be wearing one for nationals.
