deadlift

to 265x4, 245x4, 235x4

hamstring curl

3x20

thought today id try use my belt for deadlifts since it was moderate weight and pretty low intensity. Felt ok think I'm going to give it a good crack. It's time. Below my top set with belt. Just gotta master it, then my deadlift be dangerous.

i wasnt a fan of belt on deadlift at all, the key for me has been just accepting the fact that its uncomfortable and that the pressure is intense in torso and takes a bit more effort to setup but tell myself its for my own benefit. at first i was stronger beltless but after maybe a month belt was much better.

Check the 262.5x3 vid top of the page - it's a medium-low bar sort of position.

What about moving to a really wide stance, low bar style to shorten the rom? Like Dan Green?

really wide is really tough on hips etc, especially to get deep i reckon

Well that's a mobility issue more than anything else. I mean if you switched from a regular stance to a wide stance and tried to shift heavy weight there's a good chance you'd have some serious issues. Primarily with the hips and adductors not being used to the movement. You'd have to start lighter and work your way into it but in time perhaps you'd find yourself stronger with that stance. As for depth I don't imagine it would be any harder than with a more conventional stance.

i could do but as you say would basically need to start over. Wouldn't take me long to learn the movement with a much wider stance. Might look at it later down the track if u squat isn't progressing. Tbh I think the squat is more mental for me than a stance change. I have brought my stance out wider to where it was pre world champs last year. It seemed to sneak in somehow I think it was when I was doing light weights post September trying to build some muscle. And you're both right, Maccas I do find it a lot harder to get deep with a super wide stance. And you are right Harry in that it is to do with mobility and strengthening those other muscle groups that support the wider stance. There is a guy down Sth called Brent mcormick. He squats super wide and is strong as, very good squatter. He's only short though and so is dan green remember.

db chest press

55x3x8

side raises

tricep pushdown

only light but bloody happy with my form on this. Remember I mentioned I changed my bench technique a little bit to combat my arm issues. Also bringing my grip slowly back out now to where it was pre pec tear last year.

this rep felt really good.

I find very wide stance raw squatting there is a trade off in speed. More tension in the hips, but it rarely moves quickly. Possibly due to less quad involvement.

As you've all probably worked out, I'm not in favour of wholesale technique changes unless totally needed. You tweak and change slowly, otherwise you never stop changing, or you break.

Toms gone a little wider. Maybe a little more soon.

deadlift

to 275x4x2, 260x4x2

pull down

whole stack x3x12

sumo sldl

150x2x10, 200x10

hamstring curl

3x15

so I had 8x doubles tonight. The 275s felt ok, still getting used to the belt. Be interesting to see how I go with it on 300+ and the next speed day will be valuable for learning it too. I feel like it's def helping me getting my hips through but off the floor is feeling a bit weird. It's only because I'm not used to it though.

The sumo stiff legs were prescribed as a 8-10rm for the final set. I went from 150 to 220 for a double then went for my 8-10rm at 240kg but couldn't move it off the floor. 220x8 is the most I have done on that so thought I'll give 240 a crack. Nope. Dropped to 200 and got 10 reps. Not worried it's not an exercise by which I gauge progress from as far as maxes go.

First vid is 3rd set - 275. Second vid is 8th set - 260
