Ok gonna break this down. Firstly went over to whakatane again today to train with the guys. Working up to a near max single on the bench was the first target so 180 was easy then we jumped straight to 200 and just went for it. The descent on these is so slow as I get heavy but the 200kg press came up smooth but very slow. Reuben had his hands close to the bar but it was all me.... These nerve problem in my arm can just decide to loose feeling anytime as it kinda did on my last 260 board press I just had nothing there at a certain point and had to get hauled up. Anyway 200 was a PB and I'm happy with that after big deadlift session yesterday, this time in the cycle and being the 2nd bench session this week. Come comp time this will be a gimmie I hope.

Board presses were good much stronger than last week all good! After the 260x2 we dropped it back down to 220 with a focus on trying to drop the bar a little faster. Worked fine and was good. The 260 miss was meant to be a faster single but my arm had just had enough by then and wasn't keen on anymore lol. Feels ok now just can only take so much. My gripe narrow cause if my injury so needa bring that out abit more to shorten rom and keep focusing on set up

And being uncomfortable retracting shoulders etc.

Will have video of my 200kg and 260x2 board press soon so I'll chuck them up when I get then sent through to me.

Looking forward to my deload next week and just kicking back.

I am competing in the open category and there is 14 lifters in open. And 29 in total including masters and juniors. Gonna be some real beasts there ay will be such an awesome experience.

So my goal is going to just total as big as possible which I wasn't really able to do at the nationals cause winning was priority. Being realistic at this comp with those lifters I won't place unless they f*ck up majorly which I can't see a number of them doing. The top guys openers will be higher than my 3rds in many cases. Still I'm really excited and so motivated to get for me what would be a big total. Can't wait going to be such an epic week.

Btw - I'm actually 28 but I'll be 29 before the comp.

Here is my 200x1 and my 260x2 board press.

Fingers on the bar for my 200, doubt I woulda got it if was by myself so can't exactly claim it even though was F all. SAFETY FIRST. I just so mad about my arm when I watch this... Look how slow I have to lower the bar because my nerves in my arm is so Fucked. Actually breaks my heart watching this shit. No wonder the 200 is such a grind I'm basically doing it after a massive negative rep.... Grrrr so frustrating I should be repping this shit if I was healthy.

Your descent was a lot faster on the 260, is that purely because its heavier?

Descending slower would help keep you tight would it? I noticed Hamish has done the same thing at meets.

That 200 bench looked like a good grind, do you think you could have got it with a pause? Bar looked level too, which I would think be challenging with an injury to one arm (elbow) or do you adjust your grip to compensate for the injury (not symmetrical grip)?

Prep looks like its going well ! Just don't get injured mate!

I didn't realize Hamish was doing the U110s!

My arm doesn't hurt on the press up. And the pain is in both arms more so in my right and I think that's only because I'm right handed.

Yeah watching the video I rushed it the count was rushed I 321 too fast just need to relax! And I'm not really any weaker with a pause tbh. I got really good power straight off my chest. The 195 I did at nationals was big pause and was much faster than this. ill smash this on comp day.

No bro descending slower just saps your energy. Ideally I just want to drop the bar to my chest so I use no energy. I don't know if you watched Brett Gibbs video in the drug testing thread that MT posted, I did. He did some negative bench pressing. Ok, I know it was after working sets but look how much power he looses from his awesome bench when he lowers the bar slowly and it's still faster than what I am lowering it. So it saps your energy for the press. Check out this descent

The 260 is lowering faster because well... It's 260kg lol. And also I got the bench assist on and really the pain kicks in at about that board level and lower. But it's still too slow. We did some 240 doubles after that to focus on dropping bar faster and it was better much faster but just meant sorer.

Yeah overall prep is going really well, I just gotta focus on the positives and not think negative. It's 5.5 weeks of peaking work left and then next time I compete my arms will be fixed so no big deal really is it. Yup I try my best not to hurt myself.

Yeah well, his name on the list which means his entry fee has been paid. He has to make weight first then if he does I will try beat him. It's no secret that I want to beat Hamish so no point with this humble BS. Every one wants to win! I'm sure in some weird way Hamish would like me to beat him too one day it'll only make him push harder and make him a better lifter. We want sick battles! It's pretty boring when 1st, 2nd and 3rd are 50kg apart from each other on the totals. Bring it.

Deload is going well. Deload is deload lol. Back into it Monday. Remember I told you guys about that rack I was getting made. Well it finished and I picked it up so here it is... Real good quality, gonna last a life time. And can just take out the middle cross member for a comp if need be that what we be doing for next weekend. Safety's can be removed too.

follow them on fb, its cool to see that people that use this type of stuff also making it as they are obviously going to be designing it and making it smart and functional

Yeah I would love nothing more than Tom beating me, know it sounds weird but thats how progress is made.

When Joe Whittaker out totalled me by a few kilo it started stoking the fires and made me focus even harder.

Its kind of like when you're coming into a bodybuilding show and a competitor posts a selfie looking really good, it makes you dig deeper.

Thats why I think we will see at least 5 guys, possibly more, across the NZ feds going over 900 raw within the next 3 years. Possibly a couple of guys we don't even know about yet.

This is what has happened in Aussie and I know it will happen here.  Success leads to more success

I truly believe our top 10 lifters will be comparitive to the top 10 aussie lifters in 3 years (aside from Odell, who is a kiwi anyway so we can claim him haha).

The growth and community in Powerlifting of late has been astounding.  Not least from guys like Tom who has shown that you chip away at your total.  Put together a smart training plan, do the hard yards and it all comes together.  Hopefully we start seeing a team of Genuine Kiwi Powerlifting coaches who genuinely know what they are doing and really enhance their lifters potential.  Like Wookie has done here as well as Thomas Lilley (who is a kiwi living in Aus so it counts lol).

Oh and yeah absolutely zero chance of making the u110s lol.  Might as well have entered the u75s, just as much chance lololol

Mon 10th

Today was first day back after the deload. Really dissapointing session tbh it just wasn't there. Iv widened my grip on squats to what is illegal in comp so I'm holding the collars which are outside the bar. This relieves my arms completley giving no pain but at a sacrifice of tightness in the squat. Not ideal but I'll get used to it. will take abit of time and closer to comp I'll bring my hands in.

So plan was to work up to a 275 single which did ok wasn't too bad considering the new grip, heaviest squat Iv done since the Nationals in June. Also first session back in wraps since June.

After the single the plan was 255x5 but I only got to 3 and the 3rd was super slow I needa bounce out the hole it's just confidence and practise. A lot of improvements to be made. From there I was meant to go 240x5 but f*ck it we decided to do 3x3 of 230kg these were heaps better but not heavy enough for this stage in the prep. I honestly thought 255x5 woulda and shoulda been like an 8 rpe. I got an easy 245x5 14 weeks ago which was relatively easy so no excuses apart from having an off day and maybe the grip. The bar slips down and I compensate during the lift tryna push it back up my back. No good I need have bar higher if I'm gonna grip it wide.

Anyway did some leg ext then fucked off. Gonna forget about today and move on for tmw. Getting some new wraps too my sling shots are stretched and frayed and fucked if anyone wants them pay me $10 and I'll courier to you free. Might be good for someone starting wraps I dunno. Gonna get some Kiwistrength ones and break in before worlds. Had the slingshots since last August and they done their dash.
