I had this bought to my attention recently. It's almost 2 years old but quite an interesting read none the less. Apparently they've done further tests with much the same outcome.

Proof that Instant Whey is No.1

26 May 2005

In light of recent advertisements from competitors claiming to have the highest protein percentage Reflex Nutrition enlisted the services of an independent laboratory, Wessex Labs, to test the protein content of some of the best selling 5lb whey products. The results speak for themselves and clearly show Reflex Nutrition to have the highest protein content of all the products tested.

All products tested were in chocolate flavour.

In order of protein content per 100 grams:

Reflex Instant Whey 77.6 grams/100g – Label claim 78.0 grams/100g

Optimum Nutrition 72.1 grams/100g

USN Whey Protein 71.2 grams/100g

EAS MyoPro Whey 70.7 grams/100g

MRM Metabolic Whey 68.5 grams/100g

Met-rx Supreme Whey 65.8 grams/100g

Dymatize Elite Whey 63.0 grams/100g

*See foot note.

A copy of the original certificate is on file at Reflex Nutrition. All products tested were bought from suppliers throughout the U.K, all seals were unbroken until testing at the lab, and each product was tested 4 times to exclude any error.

*Figures correct at time of press 25/05/2005

These results are interesting because they do indicate false claims when you see them.

Dymatize Elite Whey 63.0 grams/100g

Ok...a cetain individual is selling Dymatize really cheap in the market place and knowing what is supposed to be in it...it just doesnt add up?

Lets be watch dogs and investigate Dymatize a little further:

5 Lbs Rich Chocolate

Supplement Facts

Serving Size1Scoop(~29.4g)

Servings Per Container77

Amount Per Serving

Calories 112 112Calories from Fat 13

%DV*

Total Fat 1.5g 2%

Saturated Fat 0.5g 1%

Cholesterol 5mg 0%

Sodium 55mg 2%

Total Carbohydrate 2.5g 1%

Dietary Fiber 1g 1%

Sugars 1g

Protein 23g

So that means 1 scoop of 29.4 g of powder contains 23g protein + 1g sugar + 1.5g fat = 25.5g of listed stuff + 3.9g of other stuff.

BUT... 23g of protein/ 29.4 = 78% protein (22% carbs and fat). Therfore, if the tubs really contain 63% protein (63g/100g)- you can bet your bottom dollar you drinking back 15% more fat and sugar than you originally intended!

Anyone found it tastes too sweet or rich than other protein powders? Now you know why...

What are your thoughts?
