Preventing pins and needles?

Okay, so I'm currently dieting and as of late have been getting horrible pins and needles during the night, mainly in my arms and hands.

I'm not running anything at the moment, so I'm going to assume it's due to veins being more at the surface so circulation gets easily cut off.

But anyway, is there a way I can prevent this from happening or do I have to wake up from the pain and just shake it out every night?

Sounds like carpal tunnel to me!had it myself and needed operation.Do you wake up with numb fingers and or arm?pins and needles stop once you shake your hands?

Yeah goes away once I shake it out, but that's always the case with pins and needles.

However, it's still the way you just described it. Not keen on operation lol.

What kind of stretching can be done to fix this issue? Does it actually fix the issue entirely or does it more so keep it at bay?

Stretching will just hold it at bay,to be honest best you see a doctor and he will explain the outcome as to what it is and what can be done about it......seems to be like classic carpal tunnel tho....minor operation fixes it no probs, just be no weights upper body for a while that's the only issue.

There's various tests a physio can do for carpal tunnel, Its probably not that but best to disprove first.

It can be either degeneration of vertebrae C5-T1.. or compression.

Both causing compression of cervical nerves (in the neck) Median C5-T1.. these nerves are responsible for pins and needles down the arm to the fingers especially the middle two, the joints in both finger can develop severe pain (like they're being severed with a blunt knife)

Thickening and tightening of the traps is responsible, therefore loosening by stretching is necessary.

Posture is key.. try standing upright, arms by your side loose, imagine trying to raise a book placed on your head by lifting it slightly, it wont move much but enough to give you an idea how you should be postured most of the time..

Thanks for the feedback, guys. Really helpful.

Nothing is wrong with my posture, I know that for sure. My brother used to crucify me whenever I'd roll my shoulders forward or anything, so I've had proper posture for a few years now

I haven't been to the chiropractor in a few months, so may be time to revisit?

I never used to get it and then once I started on test; it came about. Haven't been on for about 8-10 weeks and it's only come back over the past few weeks when I started dieting.

Will definitely need to see a doctor/physio about this issue, but if it's spinal, then hopefully a chiro should be able to fix it a bit by freeing up the nerves (I know it would take a few visits to do so though).

The thing that's confusing me here with potential carpel tunnel, is that it doesn't seem to be inhibiting my workouts which I thought it would do if it were carpel tunnel? Obviously, there would be a differing severeness of the issue, but I thought it would at least do that? But don't quote me on that, I have no medical degree

a cheap solution that works for some is sleeping with a bolster pillow. I'm not sure if it's the re-distribution of weight or it altered my arm position but it alleviated the pain some nights.

Would agree with the correct type of pillow, either bolster, or orthopaedic..

Position of neck whilst sleeping on back or side is crucial...
