Stop muscle training = Sag???

Notsureiftroll, but ill bite

What do you mean by sag? If you mean loose skin, then yes it happens to everyone when you are really old.. Unavoidable unless you want botox or surgery.

If you mean fat, then no muscle doesnt turn into fat when you stop training. Yes you will lose muscle gains youve made if you stop all together. BUT people only gain fat because they dont watch their diet when they stop training, are burning less calories and eat whatever they want, its pretty self explanitory.

If you start weight training it should be something you keep doing for the rest of your life, even if it is less frequent and intense when you get older

yeah, I meant loose skin. Would guys who get big muscles and then completely stop lifting when they are older, get a lot of loose skin? Due to the fact they were bigger in certain parts but have now gone smaller from not lifting? e.g chest area

lol.. 'friends' telling you this kind of shit generally they are jealous/lazy trying to discourage you from training. don't let their rubbish affect you, yeah it is pretty much a given at that age, even the ones who didn't do weights have saggy skin (think about your grandparents).

for an example of a great man who stopped in his later years, look at what has happened to Arnold. it can happen but it doesn't have to... your chest probably won't ever get as big as his was either so take his case as an extreme example of what could happen if you got huge then stopped altogether.

you can avoid that 'sag' by being in to fitness for life. there are plenty of old guys who keep fit and look great (seen lots in my gym), details show nicely too thanks to thinner skin. disclaimer : those older guys are probably on (legit) hormone therapy of some kind to enable them to keep making the gains in elderly years.

For people who are overweight, to avoid loose skin do they need to slowly lose weight rather then doing it as quick as they can. A friend of mine lost weight but he got these purple marks around his handles

i dont think the speed you lose it realy matters, once you lose weight the skin will tighten a little over time, regardless of how quickly you lost the actual weight.

i read in someones journal on here (ages ago dont remember who) that they were gonna maintain a lower waist size long term to allow the skin to tighten and that makes sense.
