Workplace drug tests!

Recommended Posts

as far as I'm aware they will test for specific things as opposed to a broad "if it's a controlled substance we'll detect it" type of thing - you have to remember that there are legitimate medicinal uses for alot of steroids.

I reckon they'd just be looking for cannabis, methamphetamines and opiates.

Phew ! That's what I was thinking but wasn't sure though

Depends where you work tho, if they suspect you're on gear and that it's causing trouble... they might just test that or have you up about it.

Are you worried that they suspect you're on the gear?

Mate they ain't gonna discipline someone for having high test to epi test ratio... That would be so difficult to prove that steroids were being used. That's ludicrous. They will discipline u on the trouble being caused not the supposed cause of the trouble. If u punch someone they'll sack u for punching someone not for steroids

Too much hassle, too much cost and u would have a field day in employment court. Unless u are caught with steroids and the police are called then ur safe as.

Don't worry/thread.

Suspicions gonna suspicion... Doesn't mean shit, need hard evidence not opinions and word of mouth.

Drug testing is for workplace health and safety, therefore they only test for recreational drugs not prescription medicines.

The meds that I am on will show up (for my ADHD) as an amphetamine and they are prescription, just remember things like codeine will show up as a opioid it is what it is. but mainly they are looking for the recreational stuff.

Having ADHD is just a licence to get high it's a bogus illness.

I wouldn't want one of those sacks working for me or with me.

You're just jealous he's on pharma speed Tom.....

haha @tom and dannyjay i fully agree, seen it soo many times, little naughty cunts parents dont wanna take responsibility for their kids behaviour so cry ADD, these kids grow into adults that have been managed into an "illness"

EDIT - some people probably do legitimately have it, but nowhere near as many as are prescribed for it

Couldn't agree more. Most of them just didn't get smacked enough as kids.

Ex-wife tried to have my son diagnosed as ADHD a few years ago when he was getting in trouble at school. Instead of taking the easy pop-a-pill option, I got custody, put some boundaries in place for him, gave him some real attention, and he's now one of the top students in class, making good choices, doing well in sports, and is generally just a happy well-adjusted kid.

No doubt there are a number of people who genuinely have a problem and do need some chemical adjustment, but unfortunately it's become too easy for lazy-assed "parents" to have their little brats labeled & diagnosed, throw some pills down their throats, and not have to take any form of responsibility. I weep for the future of mankind.

i remember the rampant diagnosing and medicating back in elementary school. At the start of grade 4 there was 2 kids on the pills and they were zombies. Our fat lazy teacher than had sent out a letter to all the parents whos childern were so called "uncontrollable" (me being one  ) adivising my parents a could have ADHD and they would subsides a visit to a doctor. My parents told them to get fucked. but on monday it was at least half the class droned out and face down in their work. MADNESS. When kids have short attention spans and dont want to sit still, its not called ADHD, its called being fuckin 8 years old.

Just a quick question with workplace drug tests what is actually detetected would they find steroids from a urine sample?? Or only blood? Or does this have to be specifically tested for??

I may have to have a test for work and the thought crossed my mind lol

If your in the Airline Industry and they suspect your using they can ask for a medical certificate/prescription. If you don't have one your on your bike because it's illegal..........Upside is if you don't have one and plead that you have an issue they will send you off to the docs to "get help" for your problem at the companies expense and you will keep your job.

Rubbish! regardless of industry You can't get fired for suspicion mate.

You can't be asked for a prescription based on suspicion, you could be asked for one if you tested positive to a drug test or it was found in your possession... What exactly are u getting a medical cert or prescription for if you don't even use lol.

This is New Zealand, you can't get sacked because the CEO of air nz thinks ur a juice head lol.

Seriously? I dnt know that industry but I doubt that would stand up in employment court.

If they suspect they can ask for a test. Aviation is a safety based environment where normal common laws are often worked around to ensure the safest operating environment.

A little history:

I have been flying for 16 years, 9 at Air NZ in various roles as a First Officer and Captain and 2 at Virgin Australia as a Training Captain (Captain who teaches Captains). My time at Air NZ I was apart of the union (ALPA) that implemented the drug and alcohol policy into the group. It was based on Alcohol abuse but has provisions for drug abuse in it and is considered by most Airlines around the world to be an industry leader and the correct way to deal with the people involved. Basically they consider it a sickness and as long as you tell them before they catch you you are safe and will go into a rehab program. Get caught (includes if they suspect and then test) you have one last chance to put your hand up and say you have a problem. If you don't then it's career over your medical will be pulled along with your ability to hold your licence.

Perhaps I should have explained a little more in my original post but those are the facts.
