How to get testosterone level check?

Just want a normal testosterone test or a full hormone panel?

If your doc wont do it, go call a mens clinic and get one done, shouldn't cost too much.

How did you go about it? Do they offer it and denied you? or do they simply not offer the service?

My doc said it was pointless too, but you just gotta keep pushing them, and say your really worried about your health etc etc :D

Good luck

A full hormone panel would be good, but I can live with just test. They have nurses there who do blood tests and my dad got a blood test a while ago there (for cholesterol, not that that should make any difference). I said I would like to get a blood test for vitamin levels or such and also for testosterone, I don't really care about the vitamin/mineral side of it I just said that to make it sound like I just wanted to know everything about my general health.

Anyway it seems like the only word he heard was testosterone and kept asking why you want that? I said I would just like to know my levels and to know everything is as it should be. He said I don't need to unless I'm a 17,18,19 year old who hasn't gone though puberty and has no hair growing anywhere. I once again said well I would just like to know my level, he said I don't need to. I was getting pretty pissed off because he just kept dismissing everything I said and kept talking shit. So Finally I said I have friends who get them done quite regularly every 2 months or so just to keep track of it, his reply"no no no no". So I just said well obviously they go to different doctors then and left.

Not that I have friends who get it done regularly or I would've gone to their doc, but I've seen people on here in the past get it with no probs while testing different things.

Thanks for the mens clinic thing will definitely give that a try.

Did your doctor give you the " You dont need to know your testosterone line"? I had that and I am 37  Yeh some doctors are pricks or the saving tax $$

Anyways save $$ on a doc visit and just self refer (test).

In christchurch I just walk into one of the canterbury medlab clinics (medlabsouth) and I ask the nurse that I would Like to do a self test please. She will give you a blood panel form that you fill out and tick the boxes of the tests you want done. You also add your email address so the results can be sent to you that way.

Once you fill out the form the nurse puts it into the computer tallys up the cost and prints out a receipt for you pay. They had eftpos. A few mins later a nurse leads you to the room verifies your name and age and takes your blood. Depended on how many tests you picked they take about 1 to 4 vials. :pfft:

Few days later the results arrive in the email.

Some Tests are not allowed for self refered clients though, Like HIV and Hepatitis mainly the Virus stuff.

But Reproductive Hormones, Lipids, Liver etc are fine.

A single Testosterone Test is $23. The price Sheet is found here. "The Patient charging schedule".

http://www.medlabsouth.co.nz/index.php? ... Itemid=220

I did a blood test about 4 weeks ago to get a baseline, Cost for Liver, TSH, LH Test,Oestradiol,Prolactin ,etc was about $130,

But you will still need someone with knowledge to help you understand the results.

i dont know what labs do north island.

That sounds awesome, I'm in Hamilton but will look for something similar.

Change your doc! He works for you, end of story. How the hell does he know at a glance that your levels aren't actually borderline or low? Does he have "Lab-Vision"?

As much as he's there to advise you, if you have a legitimate need/desire to get a specific test done, then he tells you the pros and cons, fills in the piece of paper and sends you on your way to the lab. End of story.

^this.

it amazes me people worry abut telling drs that they are using steroids. they are not paid to judge only to advise of the pros and cons.

Its surprising how little Doctors actually know regards Testosterone its esters or the correct injection protocol of how to apply them.....

If you want any confidential blood tests done, try your local Path-Lab...

  • 2 weeks later...

Me thinks it time to change your Doctor. Mine will allow me to have any tests and meds that I want. I just have to justify them to her. But if you want certain bloods done then there is not reason for them to say no. The only other thing that they could do is refer you with the test forms and tell you that you might have to pay for it. But as I an others have said they are there for you. You pay their wages and keep their practices going.

The following tests are indicative of a hormone panel :

Testosterone

LH

SHBG

Free Testosterone or Free Androgen Index

Oestradiol

Prolactin (optional)

In Aucks you can self test:

Test $24

Free Test $57

LH $12

Oestradiol $18

SHBG N/A

Total $111

In CHC you can free test:

Test >18yrs $23

Oestradiol $20.50

Prolactin $21 (optional)

SHBG N/A

Free Test N/A

FAI N/A

Total $76.50

Older males over 40 should get a PSA test as well.

Lipids & chloresterol can be added & so on & on...

The tests will give you some idea where your baseline is but you really need a full panel to access your endocrine system as a male. Ladies...yr another ball game :)

I'm happy to interperate readings with my limited sharmanic knowledge.

  • 1 year later...

Hi All,

I was a previous member in the past and had to  take a 3 year break due an injury. Back now and looking to get back into training.

However, I have been getting my T levels checked by dr and uh oh: below cut off first time, and borderline next 2.

Wondering what my next steps are as Dr seems a bit hesitant to prescribe anything. But seems that minimum test levels is not gonna cut it.

Is there a men's clinic or something that can help? Anyone talked to them? I'm only 30 so, not old enough to be dealing with this! (but I am on propecia too...)
