Awesome lifts and massive potential!

keep going, could be Nationals in Wellington (or Classic Champs in Christchuch end-Sept) in your future!

Only thing holding her back is saying yes, already beaten the qualifying totals by a fair bit! Get a provincial champs under the belt and from there it's up to you Abbey, great stuff!

Hi.

Im not abby but we are hoping for a 320 total at the provincials in late April.

She wants a 120 squat, and I think its in there.

back on the 5x5 wagon starting next week. Unfortunately I will be working away in chch so wont be able to train with her but have faith the yards will be put in! And will be demanding training updates and videos lol

I dont know much about womans powerlifting, or powerlifting at that but I would love to see abby in competing at the nats!

Here's the womens results from 2012 Nats:

http://nzpowerlifting.co.nz/wp-content/ ... women1.pdf

Take note that most of those women were competing equipped, and there were no junior females. I'm not sure what class Abbey is in, 63s/72s maybe? But as you can see, a 300+ total, especially raw is definitely up to par.

Here's the results from Classic Nats last year, only 6 women competed but we can see a 300+ total again is very competitive

A lot of potential there for Abbey, keep it up!

here ya go :)

If Abbey's 72kg class, Junior (under 23), then she needs the brown standard. There are two totals, un-equipped (no squat suit or bench shirt) - 237.5, and equipped (with squat suit/ bench shirt) - 280kg.

So, I'd say she's met those totals, and if the Southern Classic counts as a national qualifier event, then possibly the only other thing that might be needed is to register with the regional body - Otago Weightlifting ?

thanks. one more question. Do you have to be registered with your province (otago weightlifting club) to be able to compete in the NZPF and qualify for the larger events?

Yep, you'll have to fill out two separate forms for registration. One for the Otago Weightlifting Club, and one for the NZPF. You need to be registered for 3 months before you can participate in any national events, and 6 months before you can set any records.

^^ thanks for all the help people

Phed. So once abby has registered(doing it now) She could compete in any events around the country and would be lifting for Otago?

The reason I ask if she was competing in Auckland for some reason and out lifted a current Otago record, would that record be broken?

Woah!!!! So my first competition at the OAWLA was MEAN!!!!!

It was a pretty awesome experience and gave me a lot of drive to do more.

Thanks everyone for all the lovely comments and support. You guys are awesome! And thanks to MK for updating my journal without my knowledge! Lol

My new goals are to compete at nationals and would really like t try and break some records too. I have a pretty awesome coach (MK) and i really would not have been able to achieve what i have without all his help. He has made everything really easy and i feel like i havent worked really hard to get t where i am so im now prepared to work my butt off and see what beast i can unleash! Bring on the beast! Bring on some heavy heavy weights :shifty:

Does anyone know where i could buy a soft suit from in NZ? Maybe second hand? I am also interested in some knee sleeves and shoes as well if anyone knows of anyone/women selling some women gear or small mens :)

Anyway thanks again to everyone. Peace out.

She'd have to do the provincial champs to get a qualifying total for other higher level comps like North/South Islands and Nationals etc, but yeah she could lift at any comps given she hits the required qualifying total, which won't be an issue :) I'm also pretty sure you can set pronvincial records lifting elsewhere. I broke the Otago records lifting at the BBro last year, you just have to be registered for 6 months before you can set records.

I think Warren/Old Bull on these forums carries some stock of soft suits, would be worth shooting him a PM. As for sleeves and shoes, unfortunately you'd probably have to order from overseas. You could ask on the Powerhouse forums for anyone wanting to get rid of some shoesThe Gear Shop but it's a small market, especially being female. Knee sleeves aren't often sold 2nd hand as they tend to wear out and smell horrible

  • 4 weeks later...

So things are looking goooooood :)

I have been experiencing really bad lower back pain (sacroiliac joints??) for about 6 months. It is absolutely horrible! Has affected my squats and deadlifts for far too long. However i have had a good turning point over the last couple of weeks. Have been doing quite a lot of front squats also to help strengthen my core. I have also restructured my squat and i feel great!!!

Bar is sitting lower and i am comfortable with my stance which is a bit wider than normal and learning to keep my feet flat and solid on the ground and pushing my knees out. My major problem was knees coming in and my feet rolling in. So big improvement. I still have lower back pain but i love the foam roller and it helps. I have been focusing on just the sacroiliac joints and i take longer to warm up and i foam roll in between sets too and take my time. Its all coming together and helping lots. Have had some great feedback and help from Monarchking and Metu.

New technique is definitely better. After finding a new comfortable technique for my squat on FRIDAY (!) i maxed out friday, saturday and today and making a pb today. My body responds really well and bounces back quite quickly with my squats. So i am super happy :D

I have maxed out on my squat for 3 days in a row now and feeling strong and really good. My body has been responding really well so far so I will keep going. I am not on an actual cycle at the moment... i am just "winging" it.... but its working out. Some of these olympic lifters are maxing out everyday! Crazy! I am proud of myself for doing 3 days in a row max squat.... number 4 tomorrow????

Are you and MK coming to Christchurch ? Awesome... I'm hearing it's going to be a big field.

According to the info I've got (you could HJP, he has the details), U72 junior raw female National Records are:

Squat 112.5, Bench 70, deadlift 140, total 320.

If you got your goals, that'd give you the records for squat, deadlift and total :)

I'm looking forward to it!! Told today I can't get Friday and Monday off work but am working on getting  Friday off to watch some of the bench! But will def be there sat and Sunday. As well as a feed Sunday night :)

so those numbers would have to be beaten to be records right? I also think she just scrapes in as registerd for 6months.

Yep, those are teh numbers to beat - I think there's guidance as to how much you have to beat them by, but it can't be much because there are fractional plates (like 500 grammes per side) which get called-out for record attempts.

I'd really recommend that you flick Hayden Pritchard (HJP) a message, he'll be able to help with both that and the eligibility question, but you might find http://nzpowerlifting.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/NZPF-Policy-for-setting-NZPF-Records.pdf helpful.
