Dyceast
What exactly is wrong with them? (Also are they considered as processed foods?)I know (Well think) that it has been stripped from nutrients etc.But if we have vitamin pills, healthy fats everyday etc. Then what is wrong with eating white bread or white rice with of course some kinda of protein since we already getting nutrients from pills (I think :shifty: )?Do they break down differently? They still contain the same amount of cards and fats etc dont they? Also is there anything wrong with flour? Yaknow, For Doughboys 8) ? loser
there is so much bs info around these days.white rice is fine. just look at the orientals for example, they are all bone skinny and yet they munch a bowl of rice with every meal... Andrew
Yes white rice is fine but brown rice is better, higher in fiber and slightly lower GI, plus it costs less and IMO tastes better

samoan_muscle
Yes white rice is fine but brown rice is better, higher in fiber and slightly lower GI, plus it costs less and IMO tastes betterI agree - white rice is probably ok but damn it tastes like shit. I would rather eat basmati or brown rice than a bowl mushy glue anyday.

Pseudonym
Since we're talking GI, perhaps someone can answer me this...How does a packet of MAGGI 2-minute noodles get a GI rating of 52?! Potatoes and rice are 70 and 58, respectively.EDIT: Actually, the 52 figure was what MAGGI themselves advertise. GlycemicIndex.com gives 46-48!
Kiwi
hmmmm - that sounds a bit creative in its GI advertising to me too, but I could be wrong. Is there any official body that is responsible for ensuring the macro- nutrient details & GI rating which NZ food companies proclaim on their packaging, is the real thing? (or do you have to complain to e.g. the commerce commission or pay a food testing CRI to check these things).
Flex
How does a packet of MAGGI 2-minute noodles get a GI rating of 52?! Potatoes and rice are 70 and 58, respectively.Because 2 minute noodles are 30 to 40% fat - potatoes and rice are carbs - 2 Minute noodles are procesed sh!t in a bag. Pseudonym
Kiwi - http://www.glycemicindex.com is as good as it gets. It's a database run by the University of Sydney, so because it's based in Australia, it's got a lot of NZ brands there (unlike most of the US sites). Thanks Flex - that's kind of what I figured, but I never realised fats made quite so much difference to the GI.
