The risky quest for an 'ideal' body

I thought this article might have had something interesting to say

However the way men work out with their weights overworks some muscles at the expense of others, which throws out their muscle, joint and body balance. The overuse of protein drinks and supplements at the expense of a balanced, nutritional eating plan then adds to internal damage

This is a huge exaggeration. Most people who have this sort of commitment, also have the knowledge to compliment their commitment. In turn, this prevents them from making stupid choices when training & eating.

In addition to this, I've never known anybody to overuse protein drinks.

This has got to be the most stupid article i have ever read. Saying that most men cannot achieve a lean muscular physique and that they are wasting their time is not true. Its not going to help any man that is struggling for motivation to go to the gym to lose weight. It will give people more reason to not exercise and spend more time doing 'social' things like going back to their couch to watch tv.

I would call 2 hours a day in the gym dedication not an obsession. When did anything great ever get achived while half assing it.

Also pretty ironic that stuff runs articles all the time about ripped Shirtless celebrities then runs this article to jump on the negative body image band wagon.

Seems like a very useful article.

Fatties can point to it as a rationale for doing nothing - what with cardio now being symptomatic of an underlying self-image and health disorder. They also get the satisfaction of looking at athletic people with the smug knowledge that they obviously suffer 'cardio disease'. Presumably they have to explain to their partner that their annual gains are due to aging and a slower metabolism.

Meanwhile, proportionately, there is less competition for the ladies.

We all win on this.

Load of rubbish,

There is risk with any physical activity, my flatmate plays football and both of his ankles and one knee are completely screwed. Over half our population suffers from over use of KFC quarter-pack at the expense of a balanced, nutritional eating plan. I didn't even bother thinking about diet until I started lifting because I could see and feel the results of good eating.

Load of crap, just a bunch of fatty's writing an article bout shit.

The 'ideal' masculine physique is not un-attainable, there is nothing wrong with taking control of your destiny and changing the way you look.

There will be an ever growing fight over male fitness and health as the amount of jelous men who don't have the drive and determination to achieve anything contantly are fuelled with rage and insecurity as the fit and muscular male physique is starting to get more and more attention especially from woman and even movie directors are cashing in on this with films like Magic Mike.

Expect a huge growth in gym memberships after this movie is released next week.

As for muscularity representing masculinity, thats the way it works. No one will respect you if you don't respect yourself.

A man must be physically strong as well as mentally.

It now wonder most men and woman won't try to get strong. with rubbish like this being bandied about.

I was watching a BBC documentary on traditional west African wrestling, and those guys are all solidly built. No gyms, no supplements, and no steroids.

- Sorry the best video showing the training I could find is in French.

Being strong and muscular is natural for a human with the appropriate food and exercise.

It’s the view taken by this article that’s abnormal.

fat will never be attractive./.

It has been in the past but is unlikely to be again. Being morbidly obese has never been considered widely attractive (has hardly existed before late 20th century anyway) but being plump and pasty with some rolls has been considered attractive in the past. Partly just because it showed you could afford food and didn't have to work though...
