Hi guys my names dan just joined up tonight. im a former rugby league player (national age grade) and now a current coach for a youth rugby league team and im really feeling the buzz to get back into training unfortunatley i have been out for 6 years and in that time i have had 4 kids and let myself really go. i just turned 24 years old, 130kgs and really out of shape, still have quite big shoulders and arms just the big gut lol...i find it really difficult to get a solid routine going being so busy but have found a local gym thats 24hrs so thats good. i have just purchased iSatori PWR as i find that i need a extra kick to get me through a workout...any advice and/or help for me to reach my goal of 110-115kg would be awesome! im new to these kinda forums so yeah sorry for any noobie mistakes i make lol. cheers guys look forward to chatting with you guys!

Whey protein is a great one. Whey supplements comes in forms such as isolate (arguably the best but also most expensive), casein, concentrate and blends.

Isolate/Concentrate protein you can consume any time of day but especially advantageous to consume post workout to provide your body with a quick source of protein after the exercise (just helping the recovery process).

Casein type is what some use for meal replacements and before bed to help provide longer lasting protein through your system (up to 8 hours they say).

As far as choosing which brand of protein, it's a really personal choice. Some of us decide only on value for money (in which case you compare how much total protein grams you get per the dollar) and others decide based on taste. Right now I'm really small and I can get away with buying the more expensive & tasty (for me anyway) blends like MyoFusion or MuscleMilk because I easily get most of my protein from my foods anyway so I don't need to add much whey to meet my diet but can imagine looking at value for money will be heaps more important when it comes to being jacked up like some of the other guys around here, some who will have several scoops of whey a day. I recommend roaming around the product reviews of this board if you wanna get a few more opinions about which one to buy.

Creatine is also a great supplement and it is generally recommended to stick with the proven Creatine Monohydrate (also happens to be the cheapest!) rather than trying out all these other forms like Kre-Alkalyn. If you use creatine, remember to drink plenty of water (even more than you normally would while working out) to help avoid dehydration effects such as cramping. Creatine may give you a little more strength (very slight) as well as help with your endurance during your workouts... or you may find it doesn't work for you at all. It will also be about 2~3 weeks before it 'kicks in'. When buying Creatine, always grab the cheapest one you can find but also quickly check the ingredients label to make sure it is pure creatine monohydrate and not a random mix of other junk.

Those two (whey + creatine) are really the important ones. Besides that you can look in to pre-workout drinks if you wanna up your performance a little bit more but it's probably better to leave that to later.
