Some old video footage

What was the venue Cezare? I remember they used the Wgtn Show Buildings then Body and Soul in the late 90s before moving to Wgtn High School.

Brings back a few memories here of the Justins, Harrys, Steve Lynch, Greg Ryans, Dave Wongs etc.

Bring Back Golds Gym!!!!!.

It was a real good time back then wasn't it Gasp. Bunch of crazy mofos but it worked cos we all shifted some weights and well as much as everyone had their own circle we all worked well together... Remember Hayden Wineera? Lifting stuff day in and day out I still haven't seen almost 20 years later!!

Thanks heaps Cezare I appreciate that as don't have hardly any of my shows in pics or video etc. Dam that was 13 years and I was 21, as Harry says those seem to be the good old days of bb when there was a whole group of us big ugly buggers training hard and getting big :)

great footage - amazing physiques

Harrys physique very classsic bodybuilder - tight waist and nice full structure ... can also very easily see why Justin made it to the Pros - havent seen many through the years with a physique like that. Big, hard and and ripped to f*ck!

Just for interest here's the younger cousin of mine that Cezare mentioned, back when he was 19 at the NABBA worlds in Malta.

Too bad he gave up only a couple of years later, well gave up competing. He got up to around 140 muscular kilos in his early 20's training with Kevin O'Grady over here now he's a fitness guy at about 120 lol

Wow your cousin is amazing for 19 Harry, impressive for any age! You need to get him back on stage with you!

That vid of Justin just set a new standard from what I expect from a Mr NZ. OMG!

Yeah my cousin was a freak, no interest at all in bodybuilding now though. Just trains to be a fit guy.

And yep Justin was and still is an amazing freakshow of a bodybuilder.

Man genetics to burn! Thanks for posting that up Harry I wondered what Anthony got up to. I watched him win Junior Mr NZ he was an awesome junior competitor imagine what he would have looked like as an open.

Yeah man he was a massive guy... he did a couple of open shows, one in wgtn for Nabba and one over here.. he was in the 115-120 range and just a freakshow for conditioning. Strong guy and great genetics but well he just lost interest in it. Still looks great and is a fit guy, doesn't train to be big at all yet still turns heads when he's walking around the place.

The year he won the juniors was an awesome line up.. Chris Chase second and Mike Debenham third.

Incidentally that's the year Mike Kingsnorth won the novice middleweights with some of the freakiest conditioning and best posing I have seen on stage in NZ. BJ Johns won the opens with Hugh Willis second and Vic Richards guest posed... yep that was a great show.

I remember that show!!! I saw Victor Richards training up at All Seasons (now Club Physical) in Te Atatu. Seated B/B shoulder press 160kg warm ups I think it was ... massive delts.

You dont hear much about Hugh Willis any more - what happened to him?

Its great to see these vids of Harry & BK etc in such good shape & condition at an early age. One forgets with all of the "new breed" youngsters around at present, that there has always been excellence in NZ BBing at a young level & that its nothing new to the sport / art form :)

Absolute gold - MikeK pointed this out to me - featuring a very young Mike Debenham & Dave Smith both Mr NZL winners in future years.

Jamie Flynn & Garth McMannaway as well.

Wow nice!!! I remember Garth that year, was my first nationals in the novices and I was supposed to be seeing him at the nationals. I knew Garth from Wellington and I was like "we aren't even close to the same class".. he was a monster. Thank god he didn't show up!

Dave seeing a standard for rock hard roundness even then and Jamie Flynn, wow I remember that guy! He was awesome. Mike D looked great there, a sign of what he would turn into as he grew.

Awesome footage thanks for posting it up. Classic to look back on. Remember seeing Garth at many shows was a name to fear in comps thats for sure and he kept getting better every year.

If any one has any old vids like this post them up its all good stuff and also preserves it for future some of my really old vhs from late 80's I videod off the tv is losing sound and picture is degrading. :(
