5) I think Im getting more carbs then most low carb diets due to the few carbs in the flax seeds and my post workout drink, I have yet to feel any great loss of energy or strength. Im keeping carbs under 30g on non workout days and under 90g on workout days.

You do realise that the average male needs around 120grams of carbs a day simply for the brain to function at optimal levels?

I to have to agree with Cammo. You can loose a decent amount of bodyfat without resorting to unhealthy diets and yes I consider this unhealthy have you noticed on protein containers the disclaimer stating that the product is not suitable as a sole nutritional source.

I not sure 21 year old’s do this anyway :D

But seriously I still think this is an interesting experiment in dieting and cant wait to see the post diet results …I think as long as you stick to a sensible eating plan after it as you plan to it should be sweet

Haha Yeah, and apparently you actually need 130g in order to survive. Otherwise your CNS will pack up. Also 1g of protein per Kilo bodyweight is the max requirements for male athletes, anymore could be dangerous to your health

Thanks for your support

obviously not me :)

Day Five

Got all my shakes in, workout went great. Cant be bothered typing it out though, brain mustnt be functioning properly.

As for this diet being bad for my health, let me show you a few numbers that Dan John's physician worked out pre and post this diet.

Before:

Total Cholesterol: 255

Triglycerides: 182

HDL: 41.2

LDL: 177.6

After:

Total Cholesterol: 171

Triglycerides: 103

HDL 46.9

LDL 103

 Impressive... as are the before n after's on that link you posted.

Fortunately the human body has had thousands of years to adapt to various diets and so has adapted ways of operating with very low carbohydrate intake. Protein is deaminated through the process of gluconeogenesis and converted to glucose for the brain to use as fuel. In prolonged low carb diets, the brain derives a large portion of its energy from ketones derived from fat, hence the reason why this is called a ketogenic diet - high fat for energy, high protein to maintain muscle. True the brain won't run at 100% but you won't die. It's a tough diet but it's worth it considering how lean you can get.

Diets like this are extremely effective if done correctly and on a short term basis. And as long as you introduce carbohydrates correctly when finishing this diet there is no reason to believe that there would be any rebound effect.

Thanks for the support bro,

Just to note, I weighed in at 195lbs/88.6kg today. Weighed 204lbs/92.7kg on Monday. Thats 9lbs/4kg in 6 days.

No Visible muscle loss, infact I look bigger (as is the way when you lose fat). Also no strength loss and minimal energy loss (I still do cardio every morning and dont feel lethargic at all. )

I cant wait for Salmon and Veges today :D:D:D:D

First meal in a week hehe

Everything went good, My Package from BB.com arrived on Saturday. (Pretty good really only took about 5 days) BCAA+G, Venom appetite suppressors and 3 packs of fish oil

I got in Cardio on Saturday and went for a walk around no tree hill today.

I think I should have eaten a potato or something with my weekly meal cause I felt a bit more depleted than usual today. But no biggie.

Lookin foward to training tommorow.

Day Eight

Weights are alright, today was a little tough. I wasnt feeling "on" and my Squats suffered for it. 90kg felt real heavy so I didnt do aswell as I would have hoped.

Saying that, I still managed to get every set and rep down, it was just alot more of a struggle mentally then usual (Must be those low carbs) I have a feeling that today I was just off because I didnt get enough carbs in my weekly meal to refill thoses glygogen stores. But we'll see when wednesdays workout comes around.

Also, I came to the conclusion during my morning cardio that losing muscle and becoming catabolic is the last thing that I want to do, so for the 28days im gonna stick with the swimming and walking and nothing else, the HIIT can wait till the bridge. I want to burn around 200kcals a day, but not put any unneeded stress on my body.

I also decided to create a spreadsheet of my calorie and protein requirements for each day so I can keep my intake in check as my weight drops. Luckily I did this, as I found that I was 100kcals and 200kcals over my maximum calorie allowance for non workout and workout days. The extra calories were all from protein so it is no biggie, I was just getting more than a gram per pound.

So my new Kcal restrictions starting from tommorow are:

Low-1400 High-1700

And my calorie and protein intake at this weight will be:

Workout Days - 1692kcal/211pro

Non Workout Days - 1447.5kcal/192.5

Meal Day - 1700kcal(including 500kcal meal :) ) - 163.64pro from shakes not including meal

Also for meal day, im gonna eat a serving of potatoes aswell to fill my glycogen stores, im pretty positive that this could be the reason for my lack of motivation during todays workout. But my body got 60g of simple carbs from my workout and post workout drinks so I should be sweet by wednesday.

Great to see you're being so thorough about this, Pure. Are you taking body fat readings to see if you lose any muscle during this diet?

No cant say that I have been, ive got calipers at home but I dont think I can get accurate readings by myself and Im to shamed to ask any of my flatmates lol. Im basically just going off what I see in the mirror.

My last reading which was done a few monthes ago was around 20%, Personally I dont think its that high, people have commented that I would be around 15-17%. But whatever it is I have basically kept it around or close to that number my whole life.

Day 10

Ok so today I weighed in at 194lbs/88kg

I have only lost one pound in 5 days.

This means that either:

1) The extra calories from the extra protein I was getting halted the fat burning process

2) I have gained Lean Body Mass aswell as losing fat, as my pants are becoming looser by the day

3) I started adding creatine to my workout shakes on Monday and this could have caused extra water retention.

4) My metabolism's f***d

Who knows? it could be one or a combination of these things. its kind of disheartening knowing that the past 5 days could have been wasted, but regardless im determined to stick with it for the 28days as im seeing results in the mirror.

Shugart ranked the diets difficulty per week, stating that:

Week 1 - is fine as this has alot to do with your enthusiasm in starting something new

Week 2 - is a bitch

Week 3 - Easier

Week 4 - Easiest as the habit has been formed and your pallete has 'reset' itself

He's right, week 2 is a bitch haha

Will see what my weights like on friday

Cheers

Weekend Report

I swear on saturday I was like a P fiend but for food!!

Once my girlfriend finished work I sped off down the motorway thinking of all the things that Id love to eat for my weekly meal

Lonestar, wildfire, Valentines (yuck!) , Gengys mmmmmmm :)

For anyone that doenst know what gengys is I suggest you try it.

Its a mongolian BBQ place where you take your pick of raw meats, raw vegetables and sauces and spices. give it to a chef and he cooks it for you on a 600oC Hotplate. Its all you can eat and its a gift from god himself.

Even though it was a buffet I stayed pretty conservative, infact I only had one bowl of chicken and veges in a thai curry sauce and a bowl of rice (instant gratification :) ). This was enough to fill me up to tell you the truth. So much so that I was full for the entire day and I had to force my final shake down.

Sunday I was a little slack with the shakes I missed one at the end of the day and I missed 2 servings of fish oil, but nevermind

I weighed 192lbs still today, I would have put some water weight back on on Saturday but I dont really no what my body is doing. Im re-thinking doing a few sprints on my off days just after a shake and with 10g of BCAA's I will see how that works out tommorow. It should crank my Metabolism up a notch

Add in some green tea. I've found it makes a noticeable difference to my metabolism as long as I'm whacking back 3-4 bags a day.

I added extra weight and sets to all exercises except abs

Day Sixteen

Managed to do sprints today. After my second shake I downed about 15g of BCCA's just to be on the safe side and hit the park.

I did 8 minutes of half assed HIIT and I was huffing like it aint no thang but hey, at least its a start. Just goes to show how downhill my cardio has gone since I was training kickboxing 6days a week a few months back.

I think If I get 3 sessions of HIIT on a Tue|Thur|Sat split with the added Green tea my Metabolism should be cranking.

Im starting to see more definition in my lower abs, but Ive pretty much had fat on my them and my love handles my whole life so theyll probably be the last to go.

My pants are feeling to big for me too so I think ill have to get a new wardrobe once this diet is completed :D

All in all this week is going great, I havnt taken any appetite suppressors since Friday and I havnt had any dips in energy. Im still looking foward to eating real food, but I am craving things like steak and salad or stir fry chicken instead of fast food etc.

Its funny though, Dan John said that "this diet is weird, when Im falling asleep at night instead of thinking about women etc im dreaming about steak and salad.... food is like porn to me hehe"

Cant say I dream about steak but food is definetly like porn haha, the things that go through your mind when you look at that piece of meat and you think of everyway youd like to cook it, what youd like do to it, what it would taste like in your mouth etc, much like you do when the hottie at work bends over to pick up a pencil....haha so so wrong

Day Seventeen

Todays workout was the best since ive started this diet, My strength and energy levels were great and I had minimal fatigue again. Ive lowered my calories to one scoop of protein with each shake now but I still feel pretty pumped.

I weighed myself and im at 189lbs/85.9kg, possibly 186lbs/84.9kg as the scales are a bit wonky. That means Ive had a total loss of 6-7kgs a kilo or 2 will be water but im pretty happy with the results so far. I still have 26days left which is including the 2 week transition so still a fair bit of time left to carve off the love handles.
