Went along to the pre-judging today at 1pm

Sat down in the front and had SG, and later his bro and nutritionist(s) for company. Was good to catch up with the big fella and swap training tips.

He lifts heavy, I lift light :pfft:

Only 2 standout male competitors for me. One in the teenage class (19yr old?) and one in the Open Mens (Sifa?). Overall though the quality was average but this is early in the year and some will just be getting a placing for the Nats.

From the ladies, the only one standout was Sesa. What an amazing woman she's become. She looked feminine and strong, her shape on stage was simply outstanding and was probably because she wasn't shredded. Awesome look for her whatever the judges think about her condition.

The ladies were a mixed bag but there were great ones in every class. I did think the classes where they do those dance routines were...quite robotic. Compared to NZIFBB where they have experienced girls doing flowing energetic routines to the music, these were more like watching them follow a step-by-step routine on stage. Over time I am sure they'll get better tho and they looked good!

So for me, it was worth the 2hr drive each way from Auckland just to see Sesa (I'm not a stalker or follower of hers, didn't even know she was competing).

Sifa is awesome, and natural too. Such a small waist which makes the proportions prefect. He weighed in at 84kg at that show believe it or not at 5'11"!

Daniel won the Teenage men, hes 20. Look good too proportions where bang on.

Went along to the Nabba Waikato champs yesterday which was held in Whangamata for the first time instead of Hamilton. There were apparently a few reservations moving the show to a coastal town in the middle of winter. Fortunately the community came together and with the help of lots of local sponsors managed to put together a well run show.

The venue wasn't very big but it was a large stage and most of the seating was raised which gave everyone a good view.

The Morning prejudging was pretty close to sold out and I believe the night show was sold out too.

70 competitors turned up and while there were a couple of standouts in both genders the rest of the lineups were okay but nothing on par with what I have seen in the NABBA WFF regional lineups. Android commented that perhaps people were just turning up for their easy nationals qualification then come in a lot stronger later in the year which could be true.

I agree Sesa looked the best I've seen in ages. The slightly softer look suits her. Her makeup, hair and glittery bikini set her a cut above all the other women on the night and was a well deserved overall physique winner.

Jess Coate looked her usual gorgeous self and won the shape class even though her posing music failed to work and she had to use another track. Most people didn't even notice that's how good of a stage performer she is. there were a few other good contenders in this class which is fast becoming one of the crowd favourites.

It was awesome to see 6 guys in both the teen and junior classes. I don't think I've ever seen so many young guys at one show and it was great to see such great competition coming through so early.

Daniel dominated the teens and it was a Shame he didn't stay for the overalls because he would have given it a good nudge even at 20 years old and at his first comp. There were a few other outstanding guys in the younger classes (including my little bro's quads and back thickness which is crazy at 15yo).

Pat Petello looked sharp in the novice physique as did Sifa in the open men tall, a lot crisper and more mass than the shorter Rota Elliot who looked good but wasn't qute as good as I've seen him in the past. But to be honest with no real mass monsters to compare them too it was hard to truly judge them. In saying that Sifa has an insane shape, his chest to waist ratio along with his huge biceps reminisces of the golden era shape and he is fantastic to watch pose, great stage presence.

Probably the most impressive male physique on the night belonged to Mateo Vaihu who did a guest pose. Even though he's taking the year off he's still in great shape and had a lot more size than normal.

While the quality wasn't amazing, as Android said, it was worth the drive to go and watch although I couldn't help but think I should have taken my trunks and some tan lol
