POWERLIFTING FOR CHILD CANCER .... DONATE

Help the brothers out ... click the link ... make sure you have your credit card ready ....

Dear esteemed Journal-readers, and lifting buddies!

M.T has come up with a very cool initiative, where we use our next powerlifting comp on the 17th of March (and the training leading up to it) to drive for a good cause. That cause is raising money for the Child Cancer Foundation.

So we'll lift under the CCF banner (without offending NZPF ), and hopefully draw attention to this awesome cause.

We've got a bit of a fundraising page set up here, so if any of you would like to be incredibly awesome and chuck a few bucks into it to help us meet our target, we would greatly appreciate that :)

Otherwise, if you're in the Wellington region, why not come along and support us on the day? It's 272 Taranaki St, at The Powerhouse Gym (opposite Wellington High School). Lifting will probably start around 10, but we likely won't be on until the early afternoon (guessing, can confirm closer to the time).

Massive thanks to any support.

Thanks fellas, really appreciate the support! We've had an awesome response so far, not just in donations, but lots of encouragement from peers, and even people getting the word out (HJP from these boards got Rhys Darby to tweet about it!).

Here's the flyer one of M.T's friends scratched up for us :)

cheers Brothers of Steel!

Thanks to those who have helped thus far, if you wondered where your money goes here's an idea http://www.childcancer.org.nz/How-you-can-help/What-your-money-buys.aspx

These are some of the ways in which donations from the public are helping Child Cancer Foundation families.

$10 provides a parent with a meal voucher for the hospital cafe.

Parents can spend many hours and days at the hospital looking after their child during treatment. A meal voucher for the hospital cafe ensures a parent can stay close by for their child.

$15 provides a family with a digital thermometer to accurately check a child’s temperature.

During the intensive treatment period a child’s immunity can be affected placing them at risk of infection. A digital thermometer helps a family keep an eye on their child’s wellbeing when they are away from the hospital.

$20 provides a family with a phone top-up.

During treatment, many families that live far away from the hospital have to leave their loved ones behind. The Foundation therefore provides financial assistance in the form of phone top-ups so that all family members can remain in touch during this difficult and stressful time.

$30 provides a family with a petrol voucher.

Due to the frequent hospital visits and other associated appointments with a child receiving treatment for cancer increased travel costs can have a significant impact on a families financial situation. The Foundation therefore provides families with petrol vouchers to assist with additional travel costs.

$50 provides a family with a St Johns Ambulance membership.

This membership provides families with FREE access to the St Johns Ambulance service in an emergency situation.

$100 provides a family with a grocery voucher.

Due to the long and enduring treatment process many families have to survive on one income. The Foundation therefore provides financial assistance in the form of grocery vouchers.

$160 contributes towards 1 week of additional educational assistance.

Scholarships are given to children with cancer and their siblings who require additional tuition, reintegration support and encouragement with social and physical development. This is because children miss out on school and after school activities (siblings) during the intense treatment period.

$300 provides a child with cancer and their siblings with beads.

The Beads of Courage and Sibling Bead programmes are unique and designed to honour the challenging journey a patient and their siblings take while receiving care for cancer. Each bead symbolizes a child’s courage and recognises the milestones achieved during treatment. The Sibling Bead programme acknowledges the impact on and the support a sibling provides to their brother or sister with cancer.

If you dont mind getting my donation after your comp then I gots some incentive for you.

I'll match you $ for kg for both your final totals

Bring on the 300s huh

Awesome Meds, thanks a lot, and of course we don't mind waiting! :) That's a big commitment though, are you sure? I don't want to talk you out of donating, but I'm looking (hopefully) at around a 700kg+ total.. :P

Maybe $1 for every kilo over a PB we hit? Bench, Squat, Dead, or a combo of all 3?

We were going to ask people to pledge that way, but thought it would confuse non lifters :shifty:

Maths may not have been my best subject at school but . . . . :P

Thanks for the concern over my pockets but I was fully aware of what you and MT are capable of when I threw down. The kids need it way more than I do.

Now lets see what you fullas can shift, good luck!!

WOW getting some traction from the NZBB Community and then some! You guys amaze me with the support your giving for most of whom have never met myself or Drizzt we really do appreciate ever little bit

I set a goal of 2k and already looks like we'd hit that easily should be exciting to see how your contribution helps out the families in need.

But it doesn't stop there pass on to your friends and their friends this needs to get Nation wide! together we are so much stronger :salute:

Awesome effort everybody who contributed! We managed to smash through the 2k barrier, and get more than 3k online alone. Big pats on the back for everyone

We've got a bit more "offline" fundraising to count up and get in, so we'll hopefully have a final figure at some point this week. Thanks again everybody

Great news people final tally is in and altogether we raised $4005.13 with $616.80 in cash and also $3388.33 online.

I wish to thank everybody who contributed to the cause and provided Drizzt and I with words of support and passing onto friends and family to get the word out there you all know who you are.

So with that the lines will be closed soon and this chapter will be closed for this year would love to do this again next year and make it even bigger!

Many thanks Drizzt and MT
