Everyones believes in something bro!

Whether its we die & rot (kinda tragic and not very exciting really, even for me as a scientist), end up returning as something else (snail vs Tiger hmmmmm?), or moving to another world (heaven or the 31 virgins etc).

I kind of leave it to others to believe in what they want to. I have my beliefs tho I very rarely share them!

As long as what you believe in works for you, i.e. helps you as you move through life or influences the way you look at life positively, I reckon you're doing okay. It gets a bit burred around the extremes (at both extreme religious & extreme atheist), when the belief often has a negative impact on things (and often others).

Just my 10 cents.

Wookie needs to chip in - he's fully qualified!

I believe that we return to the carbon cycle from whence we came. Some faster than others depending on whether you get cremated or buried.

Oh f*ck are we gonna be taxed on it.....

The tax is dependent on your size, the more mass there is to be turned back into carbon the higher the tax

I reckon once our nervous systems stop working their isn't much else. Nothing to see with, to feel with, nothing to interpret sensory input of anykind, not to mention all of our memories, which are stored in various parts of the brain and are going to dissapear when the neurons that allow them to exist die when biological processes cease.

Any visual conception an individual has of an afterlife is ultimately going to be incredibly wrong anyway how can you imagine something without imagining it using our senses? Which is what you would have to do I mean you can't see hear smell or touch after you die can you, those are functions of a living biological organism not a dead one.

We used to think crazy people had demons in them now we know that they just had problems with their brains. The soul was an explanation for consciousness before the functions of the brain where understood. Atleast thats my 2c worth.

To believe in a soul I would have to believe in some kind of etheric invisible scientifcally unexplicable source of consciousness that is capable of housing memories created by a complex chemical process occuring within a living organism. You don't need a soul to have a conscience or have emotions those are also chemical processes that can be measured and manipulated via science.

The idea of it is a matter of blind faith.

You have perfectly described the process of physical life transition into the energy of light in the "afterlife".

Nice to see you around again & great post.

Wow, science is strong in this one.

When I was dying late Oct/Nov 2008, I went to the light.

I KNOW that there is life after death

There was a programme looking at this phenomena some years ago. They proposed a scientific explanation for "the light" people saw when having near death experiences. They also explored people using ketamine from memory to induce near death flat-line situations (pretty drastic way of checking shit out if you ask me! ).

Either way it'd be nice to think theres something more, afterall you're a long time dead!

Are you what?

You hear people saying, "I had a spiritual experience". I think it's more like, " we are spirits having a human experience".

That's what it all comes down to :)

And, as depressing as it may be, "seeing the light at the end of the tunnel" as you die or almost die sounds like oxygen deprivation to me...

LOL - I hope like f*ck you're living life 100% hedonistically then diabolic! :pfft:

agree with Nate that's it'd nice to imagine something more, 72 virgins does it for me praise Allan! err...Allah

Makes one think of legacies to leave etc cause no-one speaks or thinks much of those from our past let's say 4 generations ago...100 years from now you'll just be a name on a family tree posted on the interweb somewhere - yay.

Even here on NZBB Pseudonym Junior the 3rd in 100yrs will prolly purge the NZBB database for more room and drop all my posts...

It is my theory that sicence always debunks any type of religion or just about anything that is unexplained because they cannot explain it. If they cant figure it out their answer is always "theres no scientific proof". Scientists cannot ilve with the idea that they are wrong since they believe that everything should and can be scietificaly proved. Well son there are things in life you cannot understand and there is nothing you can do about it.

I agree, just because we cannot prove something it doesn't mean that it is not true or doesn't exist.

Man can be so arrogant and don't like to think that there could be a living being higher than ourselves. If we are "it" why is there so much misery in the world?

I am unaware of any "real" science that aims to debunk religion...

Yes people do use science for their own agenda by saying science cannot prove religion, but that's the "people", not the science Darkmanx. Prolly what you meant but just want to clarify unless you know of some?

Science is progress, it doesn't or it shouldn't state that it is the end result.

You are right, there are things in life that cannot be understood, and for many religion is one of those things
