I'm living in London at the moment - did the waitangi day pub crawl last year and gonna hit again this year. Actually one of the best pub crawls I've ever been on, and shows what waitangi day (to me anyway) should be about - celebrating NZ. Something should definitely be replicated back home!

Gotta scrap my costume for this year though and change it - it's gonna hit -3 over night on friday and have a high of 3 degrees on Saturday when the pub crawl is....not suitable for my blanket man costume, gotta find something else kiwiana to dress up as now!

Was an amazing day - sub zero temperatures when you included wind chill factor. But such a good day!

Ironically, the haka with shirt off was the when I was the warmest...there must have been a couple of thousand people in a tiny space.

Good times and good way to represent NZ over here!

Yeah - what a w*nker that guy was. Notice that no complaints had been received from the locals, just by one guy from NZ who probably had nobody to go with....

On a more serious note - it seems somewhat ironic that it gets a mention when the media reports on the Sevens in Wellington seem to give a far worse impression of a binge drinking culture? (plus its the poms? they love to go on holidays and get drunk!)

Well - it was an awesome day and I'd highly recommend it to anybody that is over here.

Can't say I've ever done one of the pub crawls (they say they've been going for about 14 years, but they were doing them 20 or so years ago when I first went to London, though I guess more informally) - but the best celebrations I ever had on Waitangi Day were in London. Pure unabashed fun and celebration of being a Kiwi, nothing more, nothing less. Lots of fun events, bands, and no politics.

I don't even bother with it here any more. Last year it was a Sunday, so just another Sunday as far as I was concerned (and day after Sevens, so recovering) and the previous 2 years it was when Sevens was on - so again, I was otherwise engaged. This year since I'd spent Fri and Sat at Sevens, Sun and Mon just felt like a normal Sat and Sun, but avoiding the news as it's just so boring and depressing and all about how everyone seems to hate each other rather than celebrating being a Kiwi.

I can't be bothered any more, which is a shame, but hey ho, a day off is a day off

it is a bit like that. I kept the news off this weekend too just to avoid the crying of rivers. the grads in the office even relate waitangi directly to a day of protest as opposed to a day of celebration.

Bit of a bugger how the pub crawl is on the saturday before waitangi, a) becuase it's the same weekend as the 7's. I can never afford to go to the 7's so this is my party. and b) being on the saturday before waitangi I don't get stung with a surcharge and I can recover on sunday :)

Classic!

I remember going to 'The Church' on a Sunday morning, hammered as, popping a champagne bottle in the Tube & spraying it all over the people probably going to a real church. They never complained, they just frowned & moved seats. :pfft: :pfft:

I also remember using the bar in the Tube as a gymnastics bar, doing chins & toes to bar :pfft: :pfft:

Oh and I remember pissing in the underground whilst waiting for the Tube. There's no fricken toilets anywhere! What are you suppose to do?

I'm all grown up now, I wouldn't do that kind of thing now. :naughty:
