i agree most people dont do full squats because you cant use as much weight, hell if i just did parellel squats i could pile the weight on.

sldl = stiff legged dead lift. but you do want to have a slight bend in your knee, and lower the weight down till you feel a good stretch. as mentioned be careful to have a+ form on this, AND ALL exersises.

That would be cool, I'm going to be in Figure Tall aswell.

What are the erectors? I'm doing negative chin ups now as well to try and develop the lower lats and make my waist hopefully look smaller.

erectors = lower back. can be worked via deadlifts, hypers exts, is worked during a lot of compound movments as well. but really deads/hypers will provide the best gains

To add to that comment I always found that it helped when doing front and rear poses to hold your hands as though you were holding a crown above your head

I found this really useful when I did some practice last night. It's all the little things that matter I guess.

I'm sure you've mentioned on here somewhere before, but when are you competing??

October if all goes to plan, have some niggling hip injuries to sort out but hopefully they will fix themselves by strengthening my hamstrings a bit more :D (heres hoping anyway) I found some pics last night but accidentally left them at home will try and remember to bring them into work tomorrow so that I can send them through to you). Am making the switch over to bodyfitness as the nzfbb is scrapping figure at the end of this year and I think that my physique may be more suited to bodyfitness anyway, Is hard to compete when you are young as you don't have the mature muscle that looks so good on the 30+ competitors but we have many years ahead of us inn this sport i guess so can only improve.

I'll be in the same boat if I compete next year I guess, it will be bodyfitness.

I'm probably still such an amateur but I can't really tell the difference. I mean, I can see the Physique girls are a lot more cut and less feminine (never appealed to me, and my body is definitely too small) but between bodyfitness and figure there isn't much is there? It would be more of a difference in the routine wouldn't it?

as far as i can tell the difference between fitness and figure is that the fitness look is more about symmetry and athleticism as oppsed to getting excessively lean and ripped as some of the figure girls tend to get. However if you look at the world stage the bodyfitness girls do have 1uite a bit of muscle mass, more big round full muscles, but not the vascularity of physique etc being a new class there have been inconsistencies in the judging but i guess over time these will become lessnoticable. you should have a look at some of the pictures of the athletes from the spanish womens worlds competitions held last year, if you are planning to stick around for a while that may give you an idea of what kind of look they are after internationally and i believe that with the inevitable demise of the figure class that we will see the nz judges judging the fitness athletes more in line with the international standards so trhat when our athletes go overseas to compete their is not such a noticable difference

  • 1 month later...

After a very long time away from the forum, I'm back with pics taken 6 weeks out from the competition I plan to enter.

I wasn't too disappointed and am now working the hardest on building the lats and leaning the legs. Feels good to stop worrying about every bodypart and concentrate on the lagging ones!

I've also started the Carb depleting, carb loading after my PT asked me too. He seemed pretty happy with the progress so wanted to start it now to give us heaps of time to find the best look.

Anyway pics attached for critiquing.....

pics dont look too dark to me..

things i get from these pics:

delts/arms overall looking good.

im sure the legs will lean out over time.. just make sure you strength doesnt start to drop off too much.

overall looking real good..

remember you're dieting for a show .. so at this point in time there's nothing you can do for lagging bodyparts.. (in terms of putting on muscle) all you can do is strip away the fat more and more .

While it appears that you have dropped a significant amount of bodyfat from the photos, it appears that you have not developed any muscle in your legs as there is no definition to be seen.

In six weeks a female cannot grow muscle. However, if you are a novice figure you should do okay.

I wish you all the best!

Looking good Mossley. Your body fat continues to drop, and you've got some nice symmetry.

Sure, you may not make huge size gains on any lagging parts in 6 weeks - but it doesn't hurt to try! Also, I know some schools of thought say if nothing else, it'll make them look "harder". Just don't neglect your other body parts.

As for the legs - don't panic about definition (or lack thereof) yet. You've still got six weeks to go - plenty of time, so don't make any knee-jerk reactions now. Even if you didn't lose any more fat (and of course you will) I wouldn't worry about it too much. It's amazing what dropping the water at the end can do.

Well done. Keep it up.

Just a quick reply and I will post pics tomorrow, but I won the Novice Figure Tall Class so I am soooo happy!

I'll be going to Nationals in October so making the most of the food while I can. Didn't realise I would put weight on quite so fast!! 3kgs in 3 days, but still I've had fun eating icecream and chocolate for the first time in 4 months!
