Attempting a Bench Press Record

Small

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have more questions, haha...

I was looking at the powerhouse gym site and found the records for squat, benchpress and deadlift.

How does a person go about attempting one of these record? Can you just try out for one record, not all 3?

For example Im keen [with a little bit more training] to have a go at the 56kg Juniour Womens Bench Press which says currently: "standard 42.5kg"-so would you have to lift on rep of 42.5kgs to get the record-is it that simple-how does it all work?

And does this 42.5kg include the bar-or is it the 20kg bar + 42.5kg?

This is the site link: http://www.powerhousegym.co.nz/news_records.htm

thanks!

42.5kg would include the bar (20kg). To break it I know it has to be done at Nationals or like an Auckland champs with certified judges. If powerlifting is anything like weightlifting, you'd need to lift 45kg, or the next highest weight up from 42.5 for the actual record.

Hi Small,

The lift that you talk about is in a 3 lift competition where you have to do all 3 lifts. The qualifying total for the Nationals to break that is 220kg which is just under the standards.

In the update which I have not loaded but will now, the standard is exactly the same for the 1 lift.

You can do a single lift competition and break that record but as Big Mac said it would have to be at the Auckland Bench Press Champs.

Join up next year to your regional area around $20.00, and sign on to (WADA) Drugfree Sports NZ. You need to be on the register for 6 Months to break that record. You can equal it or break it by 500grams 43kgs. There is talk of the 500grams going up to 1kg next year.

If you think you have a good shot at it, join now that way you will be on the Drug register for longer than 6 months, come next year you will be able to break it at the Auckland Champs. To get to the Auckland Champs you will have to do a novice bench press comp uaually around march, april and just lift what ever you can, that enables you to do the Auckland Bench Press Champs.

Bar 20kg

Collars 5kg

Plates 18kgs

Total 43kgs

I would give it a shot it is there for the taking you have till around june next year to give it a nudge.

Thanks that helps so much. I'll look into a regional comp and joining WADA soon, so I can get the 6 months done with as soon as possible.

That made it a whole lot clearer thanks for that!

Are competions scary haha? Because I can't imagine too many 16 yearold girls attending them to compete, would it be ok for me to enter? I know it sounds stupid-but a competition seems intimidating!

Sub Junior starts from the day you turn 14years and throughout the full calendar year in which you reach 18 years.

There are some quite good sub juniors one at the moment is Natasha Armstrong she just came 2nd at the Sub Junior Worlds in Sofia/Bugaria September this year. These are are her numbers she lifts in the 67.5kg class.

Armstrong Natasha 1989 NZL Weight 66,60 Squat137,5 2 Bench 65,0 3 Dead 135,0 3 Total337,5 bold is placing in each lift.

Have a look at this website http://www.powerlifting-ipf.com/ click on the final results.

Juniors is a good way to start and as Varven said there is a lot of support from everyone.

I will get some forms, and find out who you should contact.

why do u have to wait 6 months? is this for all that drug free stuff?

2guns,

The six months period is there for you to be on the testing programme. small can lift and break that record but it will not be recognised as a National Record. She will have the Auckland record but not the National.

All NZ National Records are subject to testing and to break one you have to be on the programme for 6 months. This means you join now, to break something next year. As a existing member it dose not matter but for small if she joins next year in jan then she will not be able to break the NZ record till june which maybe after the Auckland Bench Champs.

Being on the programme means you can be tested at any stage but more than likely only at National Competitions. The higher up you get this changes to random out of competition testing. This stops people comming in breaking records and leaving while not been tested.

Off the track:

At this years Nationals Felix Esterbauer he is 70 years old Masters 4 deadlifted 213kg weighed 90.30 for a world record. The Drug Testers, NZ Drug Free had gone home it was the last afternoon session. They were not there to test him so it was not a world record but a NZ Record, because he has been on the programme.

Simple rules just got work within them.

Hey Small,

Here are the contact details for you for next year.

Got this email from NZPF

The lifter can contact the Auckland Secretary Dion O'Gorman on 09-8326595 or email dionannaogorman@slingshot.co.nz for information about joining. She would need to join in January at the latest to go on the drug testing programme.

You will have to join earlier for the Bench Champs above was for the AUckland 3 Lift.
