Avoid anything loaded with sugar for a few hours before you run.

If you are unfit, then you will huff and puff more, but you need to get over it or you will stay that way.

try breathing in your nose and out your mouth (or through both when in) to avoid dry air entering the mouth.

Stay on the couch.

Can't think of anything else.

Have you had tests for diabetes? Not trying to be a doom and gloom guy, but I got suspect when I was waking up thirsty in the night and urinating heaps.

Wasn't diabetes, but caused by my lower back issues (apparently).

If you are drinking to excess and still thirsty, maybe peace of mind is called for?

another idea fo rrunning, is to create a tempo with your breathing, and not huff n puff. I breathe in on 3 strides and out on 3 strides. Creates a nice pattern, with full lungs yet less hyperventilation. Takes a few minutes before this cuts in properly with O2 demands.
