Impact of sunshine on muscle growth?

Just got back from overseas. Got way more sunshine than usual. all I know is I'm far more muscular (not just the tanned look making it look that way, actual muscle).

My query is this......two scenarios, lets say you have the same/similar workout program and diet But one variable is different one you get 4-5 hours of sunshine per day....... the other 30 mins.

How much of an impact would you say this has on muscle growth?

It is reported that bright light therapy may activate the production of reproductive hormones, such as testosterone, luteinizing hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone, and estradiol.

copy/pasta from wiki...there are tales of the orignal olympians walking around naked so their testicles get hit by the sun directly and it increases their test... no clue if that's true or not...

Your diet while away could be a more realistic factor.

Or...

Sunny weather does increase our happiness. Sunshine may have increased your positivity though, which may give you a boosted sense of self worth, leading to an improved view of yourself. Just a thought.

There definitely could be psychological factors that effect muscle growth, recovery etc. The mind is a powerful force...

Vitamin D, or more accurately the lack of it, I believe is loosely associated with muscle and strength weakness.

A lot of exposure to the sun dries out your skin and makes you look a bit harder and more vascular. The tan obviously makes you look better too. So I think you always 'look' better. But muscle growth? No I don't think so or youd see IFBB pros sleeping in a tanning bed every night lol

Sun exposure gives you vitamin D.

Vitamin D is a natural test booster.

Logic.

On this basis you & PD should be 32kg skeletons with skin.... Strong Tan aint your strong point! :pfft:

Agree with Soundsgood on this one - perception is a mind f*ck!

It's true. The original Olympic athletes actually trained and competed naked. In fact, "gymnnasium" comes from "gymnos", which means naked.

Think about that next time you're at the gym!

Well, actually... (must be wearing my pedantic bastard hat today!)

The Dolan brothers' pasty Irish tan probably ensures that they receive more vitamin D than the rest of us. A tan is the body's way of reducing the amount of UV light which is absorbed. No tan = more UV = more vitamin D.
