Gotta agree with dave about jesse ryder...so much potential but wastes it all by getting drunk and acting like an idiot.

Tua - might not put in the hard yards these days, but hes paid his dues. He's been around a long time and fought some pretty tough fights. His height has disadvantaged him and almost forced him into being somewhat of a slugger.

Franklin - definitely lacks mental toughness, see it in the big games. Also has some major weaknesses that his strengths don't really make up for.

Nonu - how is he a thug off the field? Got a story or two to fill us in on? Haven't seen too much of him being a thug on the field.....and in saying that, as tana umaga once put it "it's rugby, not tiddlewinks"

McCullum - where'd you get the attitude idea from? From what I can see he tends to stay out of the media (as do most the the blackcaps) and I can't see his on field actions reflecting that? Then again, even if he does have an ego, he can afford to. He knows full well that NZ cricket lacks the depth to replace him in any instance.

David Tua.....great talent at his sport. But lacks dedication to it and a strong work ethic. Hell i'm sure there are many people on this board with a stronger work ethic to BB. Most if all aren't being paid large sums of money to do so.

Bit harsh there mate. Gotta agree with Tom on here, without knowing these guys personally you're pretty much talking without a leg to stand on.

Tua - I see what you're saying about Tua though - maybe it's been his last few fights that have given you this impression (as he's been frustrating as hell to watch lately).

But not many heavyweights in the world (let alone NZ) have Tua's boxing record - http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_ ... &cat=boxer

BMac - I reckon he's all good. I just think he's trying too hard, trying to make 100 in every innings, trying to be the guy that wins it for the team - he lumps heaps of pressure on himself, as you can tell when he gets out - he's absolutely livid with himself.

Ryder - now he's a case of heaps of talent and lack of dedication by getting caught up in the drink.

Franklin - not sure about him - maybe it's a case of lack of depth - if this guy is the best we have then we can't do anything about it - maybe he's trying his best and that's as good as he's gonna get and as good as NZ can produce.

Nonu - nah man, this guys all good - don't get him to change how he plays. Thug on the field? - nah man, this guy hits hard, he just strays on the negative side of the rules but he ain't no thug.

How many SA players have been suspended or sin binned for thuggery on the field? Heaps. What about off the field? http://www.sportsnet.ca/more/2011/09/09 ... ica_rugby/

Ryders a great talent, pity he doesn't seem to give a shit. Constantly injured because he carries far too much weight, and needs to lay off the booze.

Saying Tua isnt dedicated is just plain stupid, especially after his career. You are basically saying because someone doesn't make it to the very top they aren't dedicated enough......

Please explain how Nonu's a thug on the field and off? Everything I have ever seen and heard from him hes one of the nicest guys around. Hitting hard doesn't mean hes a thug, maybe you should go watch some table tennis if the hits are too much for you.

Wow, lotta negativity in here! People hating sports people, and people hating people who hate sports people

Guess it comes with the territory being amongst the elite in a sport, but I just can't see anything positive to come from a thread like this. 'Tis the season to be jolly and all that. Or maybe I'm just too mellow :pfft:

You know you've made it when people assume the right to hate on you for your success(es) I suppose

I forgot one :

Catherine Latu.......probably the most unfit elite sportsperson to play a sport where fitness is a priority.

Haha I thought you were trolling before but now I know you're just trying to get a reaction

Catherine Latu was the most accurate goal shooter in the 2011 ANZ Cup at 93.2% and scored the 3rd highest number of goals at 449 - more accurate and more goals than Irene

Cmon mate, you're starting to sound like the talk back from Radio Sport

Decent shooter yes. But her mobility lets her down. Would be a much better player if she was fit and stopped eating so much KFC.

I don't see the hate for the Black Caps either. We do alright considering cricket is a minor sport in our tiny country. We just bet Aussie, a country which is 5x bigger than us in a test match. Cricket is their number one national sport and tests are out weakest format. Not to even mention our performance in the world cup last year.
