What fed to choose?

Recommended Posts

What are your strengths?

The IFBB classes are graded by weight, NABBA NAC and NABBA/WFF are graded by height.

If you're doing a Novice class next year it's not such a big deal which one you choose. If you come to stage at 5'11 @ 90kg you would Be competitive In any of the Feds novice classes.

Personally I would recommend doing NABBA WFF for the one show format which will make it a lot easier for your support team (you always get the most supporters come to your first comp, then they fade away lol).

NABBA-WFF & NZIFBB have their calendars up, so I'd be running with one of those two for a start!

I personally like the one show format of NABBA-WFF after seeing an Aussie comp in 2009 & the NZ Nationals this years. They also seem to have a lot of sponsorship support at this stage and obviously the opportunities to compete overseas (worlds/universe/aussie comps).

NZIFBB have been around a long time (in previous form) and have the lure of Pro Cards, though for most this simply spells the end of their competitive career! Have the amatuer worlds as international comp too.

NABBA NZ (NAC) have been around a while too, but seem like a NZ fed now (with dubious international opportunities?). Probably good if your focus isn't going to a higher level imho.

INBA... ummm you're out on this one TWL! :pfft:

I'm still unsure but will probably do both NABBA-WFF & NZIFBB? Just dont stand next to me in the novice bro!

If you can, pick one with people you know are in it as well.

Can be good for support backstage and takes the seriousness off it. You'll see lonely guys backstage not talking to anyone looking way to serious in their own world...like they're about to go to war or sumthing.

They go out on stage and look just as serious when they should be smiling for presentation purposes.

Def give it a go you'll do well in Novice cos you're not that "new" to bodybuilding.

You and Nate up against each other would be good to see :pfft:

I would agree with SG in that it depends on how much muscle you have as to where you can be most competitive. I used to like Nabba because I am a shorter guy and so I felt like I had an advantage in height classes but as I grew I felt like I wanted to stand next to everyone and anyone so I shifted to IFBB. With bodybuilding the way it is in NZ I think both federations have a lot to offer and the standards are higher in Nabba wff than I ever remember them being in Nabba.

Hey Nate I have never done Nabba Wff, can I be a novice too?

Sorry Harry you'll be lumped into open men class 3 with me. If you've won your class (other than junior or teen) in any other federation you can't do novice. That sounds fair to me. I don't know if you'll be allowed in a novice either Nate?

Not sure if I agree with this Harry, if you compete in nabba, because there are no weight classes you can be going up against anyone at any weight as long as they're in your height category, where in ifbb you know what you're getting into, in the 80 to 90kg class there ain't gonna be a surprise 100kg competitor etc!

As i've mentioned before I've only 2 shows and they were both nabba, and what I liked about them compared to what I've seen the last couple of years was the number of competitors, both shows there were 5 more competitors in my class which made it a lot more satisfying as opposed to jumping on stage and there's only one other athlete in your class.

The other thing I see people keep bringing up is the fact if you have future international aspirations then you def need to do ifbb, 1stly most people don't and if they do how hard is it to jump ship and do an ifbb show further down the line if you feel like you really want to take it to the next level.

I think whatever show you choose to do, do one with a lot of competitors in it as that's what makes it a competition and in my opinion fun.

If you want equality on stage then you only need choose WFF categories, Bobsta, where there are weight & height restrictions in each class. NABBA categories are height based & let the best Man or Woman win. If you want to line up with a bunch of people that have just come off the beach, then do a NAC NZ show & party until the wee hours of the morning but don't expect to go anywhere Internationally except to a beach party in the Cook Islands or the Philippines.

I personaly like the "Let The Best Man Win" style of Nabba as opposed to the Ifbb weight categories and thats what i was referring to in my last post Musclenz!

As for different bodybuilding feds, I have no strong opinion about any of them and neither understand nor want to understand the politics behind them and why one is better than the other. I see you're quite passionate about the nabba/wff that you guys run and I respect that, and I think its a great thing for the sport of bodybuilding in New Zealand to have.

I was speaking from personal experience (very limited) and if I jump on stage again next year or whenever, I'll go where ever there is more competitors and more competition for me.

Agree NABBA classes are large which is good healthy competition, as are the NZIFBB Novice classes.

Nothing like winning against a decent number of competitors for sure but also think of the ones that deserve 2nd or 3rd place... like at least you're not getting a 3rd out of 3 people (equals last).

LOL musclenz might have just sold TWL on NABBA when he mentioned beach party and wee small hours of the night  that's what he does best
